Last movie you've watched

Barbie on HBO Max. Liked it!

Saw Barbie a week ago or so.

Eh. Good for what i paid – will need to determine how much Max I’ve watched this month for an estimate.

It’s no Oppenheimer, which I saw in the theater and worth it.

Went to see this today. I thought it was excellent.

Poor Things at the theater. This is best seen without having a clue what the story is about. If you like Yorgos Lanthimos movies (The Lobster, The Favourite, The Killing of a Sacred Deer), you’ll really enjoy this one. One of the best I’ve seen this year. The direction is impeccable, the costuming, use of color, scene setting all are Oscar worthy. If you object to nudity and sex, also stay far away. Emma Stone is no longer the all American girl. It is a little long and the next to last set piece feels forced, but otherwise, it is jaw dropping. My opinion only.

Emma Stone bared it in The Favourite (sic).

Not like this.

Now I’m interested!!

Godzilla Minus One - this was excellent if you’re into that kind of thing which I am.

As a Monk fan but in no way a fanatic (have binged the whole show only once but would always watch it when I caught it playing on tv), is it worth paying for a month of Peacock to watch?

ETA: I forgot, KofQ is also on Peacock, and that’s enough of a reason to get it. I have the DVD box set but DVDs feel like a hassle in the age of streaming.

Not sure it is worth it for just the Monk movie. It was nice and nostalgic but not great. If there are other things you’d want to watch in the month, then sure. There is also Genie with Melissa McCarthy and the new Wes Anderson movie, Asteroid City. Finally, there is The Continental, if you are into the John Wick movies.

For Peacock TV, I would also recommend the British show The Capture, if British technological thrillers interest you.

I haven’t started Poker Face yet, but it has been getting very good reviews.

Forgot about Poker Face. Watched that a while ago. Excellent if you like Natasha Lyonne.

Thinking about a free trial for PeCockk for Poker Face and other things but might keep it until May for EPL.

Two thumbs up for Poker Face. It’s a fun ride.

Yeah, I mainly use Peacock for sports. It’s great for Tour de France and Vuelta a Espana (3-week cycling races).

Killers of the Flower Moon on Amazon PPV. Way too long, way too slow, way to Scorsese for me. I see this winning a lot of awards, but I wonder how many will be because of who directed it? I did not enjoy this ride.

Oppenheimer on Apple TV PPV. I heard someone say it was long but tense throughout. Couldn’t agree more. Another awards season movie. Just wish the story had been a little more linear as it was a job to keep the various timelines clear for me. I don’t mind jumping around the timeline but this seemed gratuitous. Much better than Killers of the Flower Moon and not as good as Poor Things.

I enjoyed both movies but saw both in PLF in a movie theatre. Killers especially was impressive in that format. It loses a lot viewed on a home screen.

I read the books before seeing the movies but I felt no boredom watching either long movie. I thought both were incredibly well directed.

I see I made myself a note on the calendar to cancel my trial of Apple in a couple weeks. I’ve not yet watched a thing on there, so that was a big waste.

A Murder in Venice.
It was OK.
more complicated than it had to be.
I think there were better choices than Tina Fey.
Started watching some documentary about Jimi Hendrix in Maui 1969, turned into a documentary about the director of a film that featured Jimi Hendrix in Maui 1969. Guy was a scam artist, so switched it off.
Watched the intro credits of two Austin Powers films.
Started watching the big short, but there was no English closed caption option, and the score was way louder than the dialogue. So, will re-watch, possibly reread as well sometime this year.
ā€œThe Big Shortā€ is on Paramount+, which I do not have. To the library, I guess.
