I found a youtube channel where the guy recommends movies currently streaming. A lot of them are overlooked, forgotten or otherwise underrated in his view and include a bunch of older movies (like 80’s / 90’s, not Charlie Chaplin).
From his list I watched:
To Live and Die in L.A. (Prime) - Enjoyed this one, especially seeing young Willem Dafoe and John Torturro.
Blown Away (Prime) - Jeff Bridges was good, but overall not my cup of tea
The Jackal (Prime) - Pretty entertaining. Lots of stars and possibly the first movie I’ve seen with Sidney Portier. Brief but memorable appearance from Jack Black.
Blood Simple (HBO) - Interesting seeing this early Coen brothers movie, knowing the movies they would go on to make. Young Frances McDormand almost unrecognizable compared to in her later roles. This one is a bit all over the place.
I re-watched Blood Simple recently, and picked up a couple of small connections I had missed on the prior 3 or so viewings. I agree there is a lot going on, but watch it again some time. I’m definitely an M Emmet Walsh fan.
The Wrath of Becky (2023) Netflix. Action thriller about teen girl who takes out Nazi cell. Probably not for everyone with the violence and gore but I enjoyed. Didn’t realize it was sequel of sorts, may check out the original Becky (2020)
The Invite at the theater. This is the latest from Olivia Wilde. Not her best though. A bit uneven and a little bit weird choice for filming. The majority of the movie was showing a single head shot at a time. Stars Olivia, Seth Rogen, Penelope Cruz and Edward Norton. The film feels like an adaptation of a play and Google tells me that it was. 95% is set in one apartment. Quite a few laughs and a lot of cringe (that’s what Rogen brings).
Angela Collier just released a video on this on her YouTube channel. I don’t know if it had been discussed at the time, but she points out things to say it was a horrible movie. The girl in the movie finds that normal means of protest do not give any results - neither with the people nor the animals. The girl becomes a bad guy when she goes beyond normal means of protest. And that doesn’t work anyway. So the main moral of the story is trust and obey your government and stfu. And speaking of government, nothing bad happens to the mayor who stole money, lied, and wanted to destroy the animal’s habitat. The bypass still gets created. There’s a part where the girl is told “you’re just as bad as the evil mayor” because she lied to protect a secret she said she would protect, without the recognition that her lie was certainly not at the same level as all the mayor’s lies. Etc
Btw, Angela Collier does a comparison of this movie with Fern Gully, Avatar, …
And she points out that both the trailer and the movie itself compare itself to Avatar.
The Odyssey at the theater. Wow, truly epic. Great story telling. Haven’t read the book in 50 years and it was all familiar to me as it unfolded. See it at the theater if you are going to see it. Can’t imagine on a tv or tablet. It is also epically long, so be prepared. I think it will win a number of Oscars.
I seem to be the only one in the world who despises the Odyssey and won’t be watching the film. My husband plans to see it in theaters.
We just finished watching Inside Out 2. Very well done, lots of hits in the feels. Accurately painted the teenage years for me, and was insightful now as a mom to a teen.

She might be small, but this B.C.-born stunt performer is making big waves for her part in Christopher Nolan’s box-office busting epic The Odyssey.
Vancouver’s Devyn Dalton doubled Matt Damon in one of the film’s key sequences, a role that’s garnered plenty of attention after the actor heaped praise on her during a recent interview.
“It was really cool of Matt to do a shoutout, I really appreciate it,” Dalton told CBC’s On The Coast.
My buddy messaged me yesterday telling me to check out a linked file. Was expecting something dumb and/or vulgar but it was the full Mortal Kombat 2 movie. It was decent and had The Boy’s Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) as Johny Cage
I want to go see The Odyssey with my spouse but every night right through past next weekend are fully booked other than a couple of seats in the front row.
This has got to be the biggest selling movie ever.
