Who Killed the Montreal Expos on Netflix.

I found this interesting as I was an Expos fan back in the day. It shows how a small market Canadian team struggled financially after players’ salaries took off. Expos might have won a World Series in 1994 and survived but the baseball strike killed that possibility.

Expos vs White Sox would have been good.

well, the split season rule killed it. Though haven’t thought what else would have worked. A lot of great players came through that team

That would have been fun. i would have tried to go to WS games in both cities as I was in Toronto in 1994.

I had a soft spot for the White Sox as Comiskey Park was the first US venue I watched a MLB game in (in 1975). A bunch of us from Toronto were attending our first SOA meeting so we just dropped our bags at the hotel and went straight to the ballpark. White Sox won in a late inning comeback.

post world series i catch a local channel showing No Country For Old Men.

That is maybe my top example of movies that I stop and watch whatever is left of it when I find it on a channel. it is so damn good. Good thing I have the chance to gain an hour sleep tonight!

I really want to watch this again. It’s been years, and nobody else in my family really enjoys substantive films. I watch horror with my oldest daughter, and comedy with the other kids, but nobody will watch a serious film with me. It’s frustrating.

I have watched it a few times. Awesome movie.

Weapons (HBO) Weird, violent story told via multiple perspectives. Still left me with a few questions What was the witch gaining from these people? The children never seemed to be weaponized, despite the title (until the end). Why were the police so slow in investigating the family of the one unaffected child. But I liked it, kept me engrossed.

Billy & Molly: An Otter Love Story (Airplane) Just a very pleasant, very family friendly documentary. Though based on the production value and early on shots I assume it was more set up than purely organic.

KPop Demon Hunters (Netflix) Watched it because my grandkids love it. IMO strictly for the kids

The Substance (HBO) Very weird and lacking some depth. Goes totally off the deep end. What I didn’t get is Demi Moore appeared to get no enjoyment or even no sense of the younger ones success, they were objectively two separate people, not even the level of enjoying a child’s success, so what was the impetus for her to continue the treatment?

Magic Candies (On Line -VK.com) Very nice animated short about a lonely boy gaining a new perspective.

Barbara Walters: Tell Me Everything (ABC) Good retrospective. Nothing terribly special but enjoyable. Especially if you don’t know the history

The Outrun (Airplane) Saoirse Ronan is very good as a woman trying to get clean and returning to a simpler nature based life

Last Breath (Airplane) Well done story, that you wouldn’t believe if not based on fact. Good cast, but looking at the real people, awful casting

Black Bag (Airplane) Decent espionage film and intriguing, but a bit too talky, psychological and low on action

Ballerina (Airplane) John Wick film (he has a role), a feminist revenge action movie. It is watchable.

Lilo & Stitch (Airplane) Like many of these “Live Action” remakes, it lost a lot of the charm of the original

The Life of Chuck (Airplane) Interesting and unique. A perspective on life and all those in your life how they make you what you are. Can’t say more without spoiling

Cunk on Life (Netflix) Funny look at religion, science and the beginning of life. Really thought it was going to be a Nature show spoof. But it was funny, and those being interviewed didn’t seem to be in on the joke, but not disrespectful.

Welt am Draht (1973) — a.k.a. World on a Wire (TCM) I have only been posting more recent movies, mostly since the last Oscar season, but OMG, if you are a Matrix fan, you need to see this two part German limited series. This is essentially the story of the development of The Matrix - 25 years earlier. Not the action, but the concept, The Wachowski siblings had to have seen this.

Was the “awful” evaluation based on the actors looking nothing close to the real people? Or that seeing how the real people really behaved that the actors were nothing like them?

I think that those being interviewed knew that the show was intended to be a bit “off-center” in terms of being an “educational spoof” . . . but weren’t told just how “Cunk” really worked; so their reactions were real to her antics.

But I agree that the folks behind Cunk do a very good job of not being disrespectful in general.

yes, looks or even nationality

she walked a fine line, that many others would not have attempted

Suicide Squad Extended Cut on Max. Not much new, but I like the film and was looking for something to watch.
The A Team on Netflix. Huge fan of the TV show. I have seen this film multiple times and while not the same as the show, I still enjoy it.
The Woman In Cabin 10 on Netflix. I found this tough to watch through the middle section. Keira was really showing her age which I had never seen her do before. Made her more believable in this role. Decent cast, not a great film though.
Blue Moon at the theater. Ethan Hawke plays Lorenz Hart of Rodgers and Hart. This feels like a stage show made into a movie. Mostly 1 set, the bar at Sardi’s. Tells a story of Hart on the night Oklahoma! was debuted on Broadway and Rodgers and Hammerstein are coming to Sardi’s to celebrate. Strong cast but Hawke owns this one. He has roughly 90% of the dialog and nails it. I did find myself hoping he would get to the point faster, but he didn’t. Feels like a nominate-able role for Hawke.
Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere at the theater. Jeremy Allen White (The Bear) plays Bruce. He does a great job. The film takes place while he develops Nebraska. It is a dark time in his life as depression settle in and we get glimpses of his early life. Don’t expect a concert film though. It is a slow burn and the flow of the film was choppy and awkward.

I Like Me - Documentary about John Candy’s life. Very enjoyable and includes a lot of insights from his wife and two kids.

Bugonia at the theater. The latest from Yorgos Lanthimos. You expect weird from him, but with a bit of heart. Not much heart in this one. Pretty much WTF throughout, right up to the very end. Yorgos might be in the running for an Oscar and maybe Jesse Plemons, but I don’t think Emma Stone did much this film, even as a co-lead.

Definitely on my “to watch” list but we are trying to do it as a family event as he was a family favourite.
