I created this thread by pulling the posts out of the “presidential election 2024” thread, because questions of “what does it mean to be anti-gay” are not relevant to that.

Well he’s on record as “one man one woman” so I would not count him as an ally. 
Peter Thiel perfected the “fake it till you make it” and this is no different. They will do and say anything to get elected.
He’s definitely on record as opposing gay marriage.
I believe he is also in the group calling for an end of “no fault divorce”
And he has introduce anti-trans legislation.
So I think it’s a fair inference that he’s not a friend to the LGBTQ+ community.

I’m saying that the guy isn’t truly anti-gay. Just like Trump isn’t really conservative.
I don’t know what Vance’s personal beliefs are, but his legislative positions are hugely anti LGBTQ. Maybe he is ok with LGBTQ people and is a cynical asshole, maybe he hates LGBTQ people and the job was a paycheck. Either way his positions suck.
The Bay Area, btw, is huge, with most of the tech firms being south of the city, meaning that you can live in the decidely less queer San Jose. And there are a ton of people in tech who are anti-LGBTQ and / or misogynistic.
Eh, Trump may have paid for a few abortions in his day, but I’d still call him anti-abortion given that he appoints pro-life judges / justices.
I think someone who tolerates a gay boss while simultaneously saying that same sex marriage is wrong is anti-gay.

Ahhh, yes… the ol’ “If you’re not an ally, you’re a hater” mentality. You’re GOOD or you’re EVIL. RED or BLUE. BLACK or WHITE.
Also I’m reminded of the racists who acknowledge that there are a few “good ones” out there.
Maybe Vance generally hates gay people but thinks Thiel is “one of the good ones”… no clue.

I’m against rights for LGBTQ people but I’m not a hater! I just don’t want you to be able to get married or be in the military or be protected from discrimination.
Don’t get mad, it’s not like I called for you to be rounded up and executed! I just want to remove your rights is all!
Vance has said he would have voted against the Respect for Marriage Act and has repeatedly stated that we need more child-producing marriages.
Eh, in 2024 if you’re opposed to legal same sex marriage I think you’re anti-gay.
If you were opposed to gay marriage in 1996 and have since modified your views, that’s different.
If JD Vance started wearing pride gear and celebrating Obergefell tomorrow I’d reconsider my “anti-gay” label, but I’m not holding my breath.

You’re not making any sense. Peter Thiel supports Vance completely. He funded Vance’s political career. So according to your logic, Peter thiel is anti-gay.

Well I wouldn’t claim he’s anti-gay, but he’s certainly extremely tolerant of anti-gay people.
There are indeed gay people who are anti-gay rights. I don’t understand it, but they exist and aren’t that rare.
