Is Sinking Fund Still Relevant?

Since October 2018, SOA removed sinking funds from the syllabus. Will this topic be useful in IFM or any other SOA exam?

It comes up on CAS Exam 9, but mainly from a “why are they useful” perspective. I don’t know about the current SOA exams.
