Is inflation back?

Egg industry in Canada is very different than in the US so there is no eggspectation of escalating prices here. Avian flu is present here but our geographic disbursement and smaller operations reduce the severity of mass hen deaths.

Again, not evidence or example of inflation.
General increase in prices versus increases on a the price of one good.

When Musk and pals steal trillions from the government and the Treasury has to create more money, THEN there will be inflation.
So, next week or so.

There is still excess money floating around the US due to the Pandemic money printing.

Supply-side issues can still drive inflation up as you then have an increase in the velocity of money (that excess money chasing fewer goods) which drives prices up.

Eggs are an obvious one because of avian flu (this is a small weighting in the inflation basket so wonā€™t move the needle much. But people on the ground will notice the material increase in egg prices).

Tariffs will also work like that but in a more complex way. The tariffs will cause price rises (as the tariffs are tacked on wholesale prices), and the supply of goods will be curtailed (less goods will be imported)ā€¦and that will then interact with the excess in the money supply, which will keep prices higher as you have more money chasing fewer goods (velocity of money therefore increases).

I would not be in the least bit surprised if this ends up being the one thing that really hurts Trump with his base.

Thatā€™s what I like about this forum - itā€™s a safe space for mom or dad jokes.

Yes, it is a forgiving audience here. I am banking on the fact that you will treat an old guy kindly, have respect for your elders, yada yada. I wouldnā€™t dare use this dad humour if I was 30 years younger.

Trump has an answer for that.

That messaging, along with some Kool-Aidā€¦heā€™s got nothing to worry about.

Well, the US is about to experience going from P1 to P3 below.

Going be interesting to see how much winning the MAGA supporters are willing to endure.

The cult leaders will just increase the volume of lib tears in the Kool Aid theyā€™re serving, and the masses will stay sufficiently supportive for their needs.

As it trends upwards with each passing month it will get harder for him to call it Bidenā€™s inflation.

Agreed.

Noā€¦itā€™ll still require the same amount of effort to tap out ā€œBidenā€™s inflationā€ on his iPhone 3.5 years from now as it does today. Maybe even less, depending on whether autocomplete learns the phrase.

If youā€™re pointing out that such a claim would make less sense in 3.5 years than it does today, I think most of us here would agree. But this is Trump and MAGA that weā€™re talking about. If Trump says a thing, the cult will believe it, and non-cultists riding along wonā€™t dare disagree.

Itā€™s posted on Truth. It has to be the truth, right? /s

What theā€¦?!?!

If Iā€™d paid for Huluā€™s ad-free option Iā€™d be pissed.

I have quit travelling to the USA but on my last trips there in the past six months I found that big city restaurant meals were similar in US$ to Vancouverā€™s in C$. Vancouver restaurants are the most expensive in Canada so when you add on 40+% for the exchange rate, the US has gotten expensive for Canadians. One more reason not to visit.

Might be a good time to visit Canada. That is, if Canadians are ok with us visiting. Quebec City was awesome when I visited last year.

This seems badā€¦

Lobster season in NL starts sometime in May and goes to the end of Junish. Weather is much better in June. Tariffs may make it cheaperā€¦

Just wish that NL was not so far from Vancouver. If I still lived in Toronto I would go regularly. Also miss the Maritimes as we went there frequently when we lived in Toronto and my FIL was a dean at Dalhousie.
