U.S. Vice President JD Vance said that the United States was investigating a deadly strike on an Iranian wedding earlier this week that an analysis published by Reuters showed likely resulted from a direct hit by a U.S. munition.

We should count refinancing costs that come through while rates are elevated and attribute that back to the cost of the war in Iran. Mortgages in the US have an annual run rate of about 2T and a duration of 6, so this is an added 120B a year in borrowing cost. Add to that what the government is rolling, and the price of gas being up 30%, and this is in the hundreds of billions.

Since I have oil (diesel) heat, I don’t know whether to be thankful or feel dread over the long-range forecasts for my area coming out for this winter, as meteorologists try to make guesses about the impact of this El Niño: generally warmer than average, but instances of polar vortices will be worse.
If it’s California, it’s not all that shocking, IMO, as they have one of the highest fuel tax (on either diesel or petrol) in the US; and IIRC, the tax on diesel is much higher than it is on petrol.
