Insomnia

When I was teaching I was usually hyper aware of this. I wasn’t that much older than my students… as a student teacher I was 21 and teaching some 18 year-olds. It wouldn’t have been illegal for me to sleep with them, though I assume I wouldn’t have been able to get my teaching license if I had, and was caught.

One time after I was a permanent teacher I was helping an attractive male student after school and it was just the two of us. I’d closed all the shades of my ground-floor classroom because the sun was steaming in so much that it was making it hard to see. And some kids outside were making a lot of noise so I’d shut the door. Then we were sitting right next to each other and leaning over the same paper and as a lightbulb went off for him about what he was doing wrong he looked at me and for a second I thought he was going to kiss me.

I panicked and hopped up so fast. Door open, blinds up. Yikes… how could I have been so careless???

He was just a little bit too friendly IYKWIM for the rest of the year. I was definitely uncomfortable about the whole thing.

He was 17 and I think I was 23, so still not that much of an age difference.

Welp.

I stopped GingAF 30 minutes ago. Daddy gonna take hizzelf a nap .

I am usually pretty good about not sleeping in too late on weekends because I know it messes up my sleep habits. My daughter usually will wake me up early (by weekend standards) if I don’t wake up myself. This morning, she did wake me up…at 8:40. Whoops. Now it is past 11, and I am not tired at all. Sigh.

Haven’t been getting a good night’s sleep in the last few days. Tossing and turning until 2:00ish and gotta pee in the wee hours.

So THAT’s why they’re called that!!

:rimshot: …also what you call it when you miss the bowl but not the porcelain.

Gotta look out for #1. Doesn’t take a whiz to figure that out. We all want to make a big splash.

I’m intrigued by this - anyone here have a weighted blanket? Does it work?

I’ve thought about trying one when Costco has them. I hear good things, but haven’t tried one yet.

Let me know if you do as I’m curious.

+1 for curious

I have one. I’m heavy, the recommendation is 10% of bodyweight. I bought one less than that, but I should have bought even less than that. It hurts my shoulders to pull it up in the middle of the night, which happens frequently, because it is slippery, and heavy and falls down the end of my bed. When I am under it, it is very comforting, but it has really caused me a good amount of pain in the shoulders because of the weight.

Does a fat cat and/or large dog who like to sleep on the bed count?

That’s interesting. The ones I’ve seen are all pretty short… not the kind you would tuck in or have dangling over the bed in the first place. At least not over the foot of the bed. I could see it migrating to the side of the bed maybe.

Good to know.

My wife has 2. One is 10 pounds but the size is like a crib blanket so it is very heavy over a small area and was too difficult to maneuver. She recently bought a 5 pounder that she likes to lay over her legs while sitting in the living room reading or watch TV. She says she finds it soothing. She has never tried it for sleeping though.

It is short, but it definitely falls down the end more than it falls to the side of the bed, maybe just a function of the way I move while asleep.
