Inflation, "great resignation," and 2022 merit increases

Sounds like you have an awesome party and then hop?

Raise will be the standard 3%, but bonus will be at max (again). I think that’s like 18%.

I’m OK with that. In the past, the annual raise was 2.5% or so and if I got a great bonus it was like 6%. Really don’t miss the days where the bonus was practically de minimis.

Won’t know what my raise was because it was rolled into my promotion.

Bonus is paying out at almost 200% of target. That will be a nice check in another month.

I’m sure you guys don’t need me to tell you…

but SPEND THAT BONUS MONEY

I don’t like your retirement ideas for people without money, so I’ll do whatever the fuck I want with my money.

you don’t have money?

What if I’ve already spent it?

Neva!

These low raises in this thread are worrying me a bit. Do actuarial employers think they’re going to be immune to the new remote economy with the higher rates of voluntary termination?

the solution is to stop being poor

RESIGN. Employers are beggars in this environment. Don’t let them abuse you/

I’m our sole income - I ain’t resigning without an offer in hand.

Does it count as spending if I put it in a 529?

Sounds like the reason for why I left my first insurance job

Great performance review but ā€œcan’t advance due to HR ruleā€ā€¦ almost would be better off if they’d given me a bad review

What kind of prerequisite is it? In my case it was arbitrary tenure requirements in each role.

Do you feel rich after?

Sort of. It’s important to me that I cover the cost of my kids’ college education when they get there so I’m basically just pre-funding a gift.

Then you’re spending!

Well, no, maybe I have that backwards.

Friends in other areas of my company are reporting around 3% raises on average. I am verrrrry interested in seeing what retention looks like after (very high) bonuses are paid out this year. And from my discussions with other parts of leadership, they’re also bracing for that. I don’t know if they really know what to expect, but are banking on enough people not being motivated to leave that they end up still better off at the end of it.
