A bunch of liars in this thread trying to convince themselves they aren’t lying:

https://old.reddit.com/r/datascience/comments/14xj6h1/has_anyone_here_ever_liedstretched_the_truth_on/

My fave lie related to this was when I was volunteering at a mental/rehab hospital (mostly rehab)

I was in the back office, mainly doing low-level stuff like hand-folding brochures, or checking their donor mail list manually with a pencil

Then I overheard a couple of the paid staff complaining about updating the org chart on the computer

I piped up: “I can do that”

Them: “Are you sure? It’s in [whatever application]”

Me: [Looking at the Mac they’re working on] “Oh, yeah, I totally know [application I never heard of before]”

And yes, I got the org chart done faster than they would have, and then they had me designing their brochures. It was kinda funny.

My reasoning [this was 1990]: it’s a Mac, how hard could it be?

I remember the app name now: Aldus Pagemaker

I rarely know the answer, but I often know who to ask to get the answer, which is surprisingly valuable because other people don’t seem to.
