Good candidate for News that makes you say WTF thread
ICE officers and agents can forcibly enter your house without a judicial warrant to initiate a “consensual” encounter
I bet someone has made an adult film about that
Officials across the country have warned of alleged ICE impersonators as critics call on the agency to cease using masks and unmarked cars
Whoever could have imagined this could happen? /s
Honestly… If they weren’t ICE, what’s the motive here? Commit serious crimes by detaining some brown people at gunpoint, then letting them go after causing one person sufficient injury to get treatment?
“The suspects identified themselves as ‘ICE’ and told the victim they were being detained. The victim was forcibly removed from their vehicle, searched, and placed into the back seat of the suspects’ vehicle.” Inside, a third individual assaulted the driver, police said. The victim was released about 20 minutes later.
That’s not out of character for ICE.
state police described the incident that the attack had “been carried about by impersonators and not by ICE themselves.”
OK, sure, the government says the government didn’t attack people. Understood that they said that.
ICE agents have face widespread criticism for their use of masks, civilian clothes and unmarked cars because such tactics can make it harder to easily identify members of law enforcement and easier to impersonate them, which is a federal crime.
Agreed. It’s impossible to distinguish ICE from everyday criminals when they’re all wearing masks.
It’s a very helpful excuse when masked ICE agents are caught roughing people up. It was, uh, Antifa thugs!
Very possible this actually wasn’t ICE. Possible it was. Unfortunate that we’ll likely never know.
Pretty much the same as if they were ICE, right?
It’s shocking that such gear will be used without responsible oversight.
I suspect this equipment will be used abusively rather than as intended, but I guess getting shocked for observing ICE personnel is better than being shot.
Obligatory ::whynotboth?::
Unless ICE decides that the less-lethal weaponry gives them permission to be more aggressive, since it’s not a gun after all.
Also: There’s been a disturbing amount of money paid as a result of lawsuits filed by or on the behalf of folks who have experienced long-term injury or death from less-than-lethal compliance technology.
Hopefully those whom ICE needs to subdue are less likely to have complicating health factors than the folks triggering normal law enforcement lawsuits…
I used “less-lethal” intentionally, BTW.
I refuse the misnomer “less-than-lethal” for technology that is designed to harm and can kill.
If you’re a green card applicant, you might want to avoid flying domestically while in bureaucratic limbo.
Armed ICE agents showed up to a law firm that represents immigrants without a warrant, were denied entry, said that they might come back at 3am and break windows
