ICE, ICE baby (and CBP stuff too)

Boston is apparently preparing for an ICE surge. Nothing confirmed yet, but…

I recall that things didn’t go so well the last time non-local authorities tried to be excessively aggressive in the application of their policies, back a little over 250 years ago…

There is a GoFundMe for the ICE guy who murdered Renee Good. All it says is:

After seeing all the media bs about a domestic terrorist getting go fund me. I feel that the officer that was 1000 percent justified in the shooting deserves to have a go fund me. Funds will go to help him.

Based on that paragraph by random individual “Clyde Emmons” who is refusing interviews, MAGA have donated $710,000. Since Trump issued an EO that they’ll defend ICE in court, it seems like if Emmons doesn’t take off with the money, it will just be paid to the ICE officer.

Looks like the US is now copying the UK with minimum salaries for immigration. They are moving to block immigrants with lower incomes.

The state department will use its long-standing authority to deem ineligible potential immigrants who would become a public charge on the United States and exploit the generosity of the American people,” state department spokesperson Tommy Pigott said.

Applicants from dozens of countries, including Afghanistan, Brazil, Egypt and Nigeria, would also be affected, a US official confirmed. Citizens of the countries selected had “often become public charges on the United States upon arrival”, the state department said in a post on social media.

The full list of countries:

Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Antigua and Barbuda, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahamas, Bangladesh, Barbados, Belarus, Belize, Bhutan, Bosnia, Brazil, Burma, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Colombia, Cote d’Ivoire, Cuba, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Dominica, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Fiji, Gambia, Georgia, Ghana, Grenada, Guatemala, Guinea, Haiti, Iran, Iraq, Jamaica, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Lebanon, Liberia, Libya, Macedonia, Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Morocco, Nepal, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Pakistan, Republic of the Congo, Russia, Rwanda, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Tanzania, Thailand, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Uruguay, Uzbekistan and Yemen.

Putting Russia and Belarus on the list is a favor to Putin and Lukashenko.

I agree with this move. You shouldn’t be allowed to move to any country if you’re going to be a drain on their resources.
Note that this is for regular immigration - I wouldn’t say the same for those applying for refugee status.

We essentially no longer allow people to apply for refugee status in the US.

But do you really believe that every person from those 75 countries would be a drain on resources should they immigrate to the US? There is a wide gulf between saying “We don’t want people who would be a drain on resources” vs saying “Immigrants from these 75 countries are banned”

Does this apply to the Trump Golden Visa? Asking for a Nigerian prince friend on the internet.

I didn’t read the post correctly, sorry. I agree that immigrants shouldn’t be a drain. I disagree with putting a blanket policy on an entire country because of it. I’m fine with putting increased scrutiny on immigrants from certain countries, but not a full ban.

Don’t bash Nigerian princes! I actually do know a real one, and he’s a really nice guy!

Fucking Nazis.

Members should carry their tribal ID cards, which prove U.S. citizenship[…] However, it’s “not guaranteed that every ICE agent will recognize or understand this reality, creating unnecessary risk and harm.” As backup, tribal members should also carry their Passport or state-issued ID if available, she said.

Note: State IDs do not count as proof of citizenship.

Yep. I carry mine despite my looking more like the European side of my family.

However…

I’m sure ICE wouldn’t be full of regret if they “accidentally” deported some Native Americans.

I started typing some sardonic MAGA shit about Natives getting special privileges, and, nope, it’s just sad.

The firm, which helped secure a $27 million settlement for Floyd’s family, is now representing Becca Good as well as Renee Good’s parents and siblings.

Of course, Renee Good’s family deserve some recompense for what can never be replaced.

However, I just wonder overall how many taxpayer dollars will go into settling ICE abuse cases.

Should be a lot. Last night, there was a dad in MN who asked an ICE agent if he could drive his family out of an active protest zone, was told yes, then had 3 flash bangs tossed at his car, one of which went off inside and sent the 6 month old to the ER.

“Thank you for you(r) attention to this matter!” is what Trump’s way of saying “please listen to this BS that I know I won’t be able to to do anyway” right?

“Isn’t legal to do” is very different than “won’t be able to do”.

Trump keeps proving that our government was built with too much trust that its members wouldn’t aim to do illegal things.

Or at least that it would be self-policing enough that it wouldn’t let such people capture the government. Failing that, the people should handle it, democratically and peacefully. If allowed to.
