ICE, ICE baby (and CBP stuff too)

She blocked the road for 4 minutes before the agents got to her car.

For me, there is one clear takeaway that is going unsaid. The statements from Noem, Vance, and Trump all make it clear that they cannot control there troops. Lying to void confronting their own troops.

Imagine something like this happening at a military base. A questionable action, something that resulted in a clear violation of standards. The colonel, major, or general in charge would swiftly act. Because he/she knows that if you let someone violate The rule book, you lose discipline. You end up with a breakdown in authority. This must be avoided, even if it means some harsh treatment to the troop(s) involved. Without discipline, you cannot command.

Our team leaders seem to be afraid of their own troops. Can’t reprimand them.

Or they just don’t care about the outcome.

Or they do care - and they want to go to the extreme when it comes to dealing with illegals.

Thanks. I had seen a video from another angle that showed her parked at the curb, then pulling out, then ICE arriving almost immediately. Maybe the earlier video cut out 3+ minutes.

So, blocking the road with the intent of obstructing ICE vehicles seems like “impeding”. They had reason to arrest her.

It looks like we agree on this:

I’m not sure where to draw the line. It’s clear that the fatal shots were fired from the side of the car, while she was trying to flee, by an agent who was not in any danger of being hit. But, the “adrenaline in the moment” defense probably reduces the charge.

You are assuming they want to reprimand their own troops. From their own statements I don’t think they even care if the troops misbehave, as long as they don’t attack MAGA.

Shhhhhh, don’t tell anyone that this is a possibility when you engage in civil conversation with someone who has an opposing view!

Which is another way of saying, they cannot control them. But it’s a self aware choice, not a failing. OK…that doesn’t make me less anxious.

Possibly self-aware, possibly not. Yes to anxious.

I hope this is a common belief. It’s hard to tell because there is so much propaganda. It seems like most conservative corners of the Internet believe that she deserved to die for trying to kill him, but who knows how many are trolls, bots, or extremists.

I agree with this. It wouldn’t surprise me if he was exonerated entirely, or if further incriminating evidence came out that pointed to murder. Either way is okay, assuming there is a jury trial.

I’m just not okay with her being called a terrorist or whatever.

First, I want to extend my gratitude to all the people who have reached out from across the country and around the world to support our family.

This kindness of strangers is the most fitting tribute because if you ever encountered my wife, Renee Nicole Macklin Good, you know that above all else, she was kind. In fact, kindness radiated out of her.

Renee sparkled. She literally sparkled. I mean, she didn’t wear glitter but I swear she had sparkles coming out of her pores. All the time. You might think it was just my love talking but her family said the same thing. Renee was made of sunshine.

Renee lived by an overarching belief: there is kindness in the world and we need to do everything we can to find it where it resides and nurture it where it needs to grow. Renee was a Christian who knew that all religions teach the same essential truth: we are here to love each other, care for each other, and keep each other safe and whole.

Like people have done across place and time, we moved to make a better life for ourselves. We chose Minnesota to make our home. Our whole extended road trip here, we held hands in the car while our son drew all over the windows to pass the time and the miles.

What we found when we got here was a vibrant and welcoming community, we made friends and spread joy. And while any place we were together was home, there was a strong shared sense here in Minneapolis that we were looking out for each other. Here, I had finally found peace and safe harbor. That has been taken from me forever.

We were raising our son to believe that no matter where you come from or what you look like, all of us deserve compassion and kindness. Renee lived this belief every day. She is pure love. She is pure joy. She is pure sunshine.

On Wednesday, January 7th, we stopped to support our neighbors. We had whistles. They had guns.

Renee leaves behind three extraordinary children; the youngest is just six years old and already lost his father. I am now left to raise our son and to continue teaching him, as Renee believed, that there are people building a better world for him. That the people who did this had fear and anger in their hearts, and we need to show them a better way.

We thank you for the privacy you are granting our family as we grieve. We thank you for ensuring that Renee’s legacy is one of kindness and love. We honor her memory by living her values: rejecting hate and choosing compassion, turning away from fear and pursuing peace, refusing division and knowing we must come together to build a world where we all come home safe to the people we love.

  • Becca Good, wife of the late Renee Macklin Good.

I think it is worthwhile to share these words, when our government is coming together to slander Renee as a terrorist.

No, they don’t care. They (Trump, Vance, Noem) have proven that with how they publicly reacted to the news.

Noem seemed to backtrack a bit off her hardline initial statement, presumably be she does care about power and sees a risk in the public reaction to her initial statement.

Oh, I forgot to caveat. If he’s found guilty and then pardoned and also given an award, I will be bummed out about that too.

Yup.

We all knew something like this was really a matter of time given the many other instances of poor training observed in the last year, along with the sheer number of confrontations that happen each day with Trump’s policy.

So now it happened. The RNG of humanity finally spit out .99999, and maybe with a few extra 9s for good measure.

But we can absolutely expect more from how our leaders in how they have handled this. That tells us more about the expected basis from them than it tells us about how many SDs this event may have been within their policy.

MARINO: And I’m tired of hearing, you know, this is tragic that somebody lost their life —

HIGBIE: It’s not.

MARINO: Look, if the choice is between that lady and an ICE officer that wants to go home to their family just because they’re doing their jobs, I want that officer to come out on the right side of this all day long.

HIGBIE: Yeah. No, I’m totally with you. I don’t lose any sleep for this woman because she seemed crazy.

https://www.reuters.com/legal/government/minneapolis-mayor-demands-transparent-investigation-into-ice-shooting-protests-2026-01-09/

The 47-second video shows 37-year-old Renee Good telling the officer, “That’s fine, dude, I’m not mad at you,” moments before he opens fire after Good puts the car in gear in an apparent effort to pull back into the street.

[…]The video then shows the car careening down the street, while someone can be heard muttering, “Fucking bitch.”

Same guys want false idols in the form of Kirk erected, with an erect penis so people can suck on it.

However, the woman was far from innocent. She was trying to impede the officers from doing their job. When they tried to detain her, she tried to flee, instead of following the directions of the agents. That is illegal as well. Her vehicle may not have been aimed directly at the officer, but it was close enough that he felt threatened. As I said, he should not have shot, and he should absolutely face charges for not following procedures. But now all the claims that she was a “legal observer”… what absolute BS. She was trying to stop the ICE agents from doing their jobs. Ultimate case of FAFO.

That’s not how this works in real law enforcement. From what I’ve seen we do not have an explanation of what the ICE person at her window was telling her so we do not know if she was fleeing the scene. Even if she was fleeing you do not use deadly force for minor crime. Even if she was guilty of blocking the ICE agents and a few other minor crimes she is an innocent victim. Claiming FAFO is akin to blaming the clothes worn for a rape.

I’m fully behind deporting all illegal immigrants. I don’t care how long they’ve been here, what age they came over, etc. Currently, the law states that they should be deported. Follow the laws. You don’t like it? Get the laws changed.

The laws are being followed, the felons and other problem immigrants are being deported as they have always been. All this crack down is doing is picking up everyone, even those with legal status, throwing them into the legal system where the government pays for an attorney. They file the paper work then the legal immigrant gets released. Since it takes time to process the paperwork they immigrant often gets shipped to a holding facility where they are released. Everyone makes money except the immigrant who can end up losing a few days and being released on the street hundreds of miles from their home.

The people ignoring the laws are the administration by holding ICE to a quota so they have to conduct this campaign of fear and intimidation. If they don’t like the rights the immigrants have they need to change the laws.

That said, ICE is definitely taking it too far, and they do need to be reigned in. They can’t harass someone unless there’s reasonable suspicion. Going into a Target and detaining all the workers is just wrong.

Yep.

I also think that anyone who tries to stop them, either by warning workers that ICE is coming, or local politicians who try to stop them, should be arrested for interfering with federal agents.

Warning someone is not a crime. “Twee Twee Twee” See something say something. I would be more sympathetic to arresting those that interfere if ICE did a better job of respecting local authority.
