ICE, ICE baby (and CBP stuff too)

I think its also about the media exposure as well.

Very cynical behavior.

From his Wikipedia page:

I suspect that given the opportunity to earn a paycheck more stable than an actor’s in a job that aligns with his political and recreational interests, it was too tempting to not give a shot.

Around US election time last year, I was looking at a government job that, while it wouldn’t pay as well as a corporate actuarial position, aligned with several of my interests. Had the election gone differently, I probably would have applied for it.

Cain’s job/career change feels loosely analogous to my almost-experience.

Yours sounds a bit nobler though?

Nice pun given his NRA connection.

FEMA…so that would depend on (e.g.) whether you believe in conspiracy theories.

ICE seems to want to be able to use looking or sounding Latino as probable grounds to arrest/kidnap people in central California.

This week, John Oliver takes a look at what ICE is doing to try to meet Dear Leader’s targets. (Usual John Oliver NSFW comments apply.)

“seems to”?

Odds of Oasis being deported if they actually get into the country in the first place?

This is definitely going to end badly.

Telling Oasis not to do something is basically an invitation for a drunken late night rant from them about the matter.

Would it be like BBC asking Rage Against the Machine to self-censor and then pretending to be surprised when they didn’t? Radio announcer’s response is at 8:42, 10 seconds prior to that probably NSFW.

I feel like there’s four possible outcomes, barring unforeseen events (e.g. they die or become unable to perform for unrelated issues).

  • They aren’t allowed in the country
  • They are allowed in and complete tour
  • They are allowed in and the band breaks up
  • They are allowed in, but get deported after insulting Trump

Big question is which happens first: option #3 or #4? Kind of a toss-up.

I go for insulting while on Tour because Trump says they are terrible (or something similar).

50/50 they get booted after that.

What I don’t understand, in a situation like this, is why wouldn’t they simply be denied entry, rather than being put into detention?

very clearly this is ‘the pain is the point’. 100%.

They seem to want to torment people for fun and profit.

False confessions to crimes are shockingly common after being detained and questioned for a period of time.

That’s in the US when you have the right to silence and an attorney, let alone being detained in a foreign country and not knowing your rights (at a quick Google, detained individuals are supposed to be allowed to hire an attorney but are not provided one, and “supposed to” is doing a lot of work there.)
