Plus a lot of personal possessions when they are just snatched and booted without a chance to conclude their personal business before leaving.
The ongoing case to try to return Kilmar Abrego Garcia to the US after he was mistakenly deported to El Salvador. The government maintains that they have no jurisdiction, so their hands are tied.
The judge is excoriating the Trump admin for making no attempt whatsoever and calls it a “path of perfect lawlesness”.
Was he on one of the planes that was ordered to turn around?
Unclear, but the government was ordered to return him by April 7. All I know is he was removed “along with hundreds of other alleged gang members”, but the government isn’t exactly being transparent.
No. This is the guy who was deported due to the administrative error of not realizing a court had ordered he not be deported to El Salvador, not one of the folks on planes that didn’t turn around.
also, the solution might not be that he isn’t deported. but if the govt figures it out and gets him out of el salvador he will be sent to the worst place they can imagine that they are allowed to send him bc they (this admin) don’t like complainers
Sounds like the move Brazil
I believe Garcia’s litigation alleges the following:
Relocating him from El Salvadr to a different hellhole prison abroad moot only the first of those allegations. The second and third require bringing him back to the US as part of the resolution.
Looks like Robert’s has delayed the Judge’s 11:59 deadline.
Roberts has put an administrative stay on the order in Garcia’s case, to buy SCOTUS time to consider the matter. Two judges on the Fourt Circuit apparently had some very harsh language in response to an administration request to stay the order. (The three judge panel was unanimous, however.)
SCOTUS has also overturned a lower court TRO against deporting supposed Venezuelans with tattoos or who know ASL under the 18th century Alien Enemies Act. That being said (quoting an NYT article):
That’s one way of deferring judicial review forever.
Sign language??
Sign language.
One of the deportees was supposedly “identified” as a gang member because he signed “I love you”. ICE claimed he was throwing a gang sign.
The article goes on to mention that several of these revocations appear to be related to speeding tickets and DUIs, and in one case the DUI in question had been disclosed as part of a visa renewal that went through.
Several of the revokees are also PhD students who were preparing to defend their dissertations.

…a discount airline is now doing charter work for CBP/ICE.
In their defense…I understand their financial condition is such that they need to find some good-paying customers or start considering bankruptcy.
Gallaudet students suddenly very uneasy…
As they say in Russia: “give us a person and we’ll find the infraction.”
for an admin that insists it is taking down the elites and the elite institutions, this is an (unsurprising) misstep. but on brand for chaotic
