But as far as I can tell you can still buy the latest albums on cassettes if you really want to. Taylor Swift on a Walkman? Yeah you can.
I suppose I could go out and buy 500.cds and rip them. then I don’t get access to any variety. for 20 bucks a month my whole family gets whatever music they want.

If you listen to music quite a bit… CDs are like $15 a pop. So for $20/mo you can buy a CD once every three weeks, or you can pay $20 to have access to an almost limitless library. My car supports Apple Music as well. Seems like a fair deal, I am able to check out any artist, any song, from multiple devices, on the fly.
I bought a LOT of music back in the day. I still have my CD wallet thing, it has 300 CDs in it. It’s a little unwieldy, lol.

I’m sort of nostalgic for the days where the listening to new music seemed more special - going back to when you took new music home, sat down with the intent of listening (maybe with friends), read the liner, and pretty much focused on the new music. That said, I don’t own any media at all any more. The focus and the “with friends” are the two parts that I think are more missing now.
I have a pretty big CD collection from back in the day. I also have a small album collection.
I haven’t bought any CD’s in a long time due to streaming. You’d have to spend a fortune to buy everything I listen to while streaming.

I had a decent cd collection that I had ripped at one point. But I trashed those years ago. It was nowhere near as extensive as spotify. And nowhere near as convenient. Sometimes I want rock, sometimes I want new wave, sometimes I want workout music from the 90’s, sometimes I want what the kids are listening to today, sometimes I want something I’ve not heard of before. Spotify does that. My CD collection didn’t.
Eh, not really. We hear the same songs over and over from Spotify. It has a shitty idea of what we want to hear based on our and others’ supposed preferences.
Well thats true. For such a mainstream company, they absolutely suck at shuffling songs and suggesting new stuff. ‘Song lists created for you’ is just songs from my liked list. Idiots.
I get the new stuff from discord. When I’m on discord with the university students, I can sometimes see what they’re listening too. I’ll give it a whirl. I hear some pretty interesting stuff, and some horrendous stuff too .
It’s the safe bet for 95% of streamers who don’t want to hear new stuff.
Also true for Apple Music, when it’s on shuffle I get a lot of the same songs repeated.
