“bought” (well, renting) a T-Mobile home internet box over the weekend. $50 / month for 5G home internet vs. $107 for Spectrum using an attached line. We’re testing it out. So far I haven’t had any issues with either speed or bandwidth. I had one TV showing Hulu, a laptop with Netflix playing, and another laptop with 2 YouTube browsers playing Gordon Ramsay, so seemed like enough for what I would ever want to do.
Finally upgrading from the garage sale desk I bought at the start of COVID. Self-reward for writing an exam, pass or fail.
Just bought a nice ($340) chess set for my friend’s bday. I don’t usually get him or anyone anything, but it seemed like a good fit. Anyway, it was due to arrive Sunday, but we got a knock from our door today, from our friendly neighbor to tell us that it was being carted off by a random drunk. So we ran after the guy, took back the stuff. And left him with his cart, and a definitely stolen turntable.
I need new sunglasses. Haven’t bought a pair in about 15 years, looking at the Maui Jim aviator styles, I see Costco sells some of these for way below what MJ sell for at other shops. Anyone ever bought these from Costco? Is the quality on par with the rest of them?
ended up getting the cordless KitchenAid one. It’s fantastic. Only minor downside is I had to order the whisk and dough hook attachments separately.
For Teacher Appreciation, since she isn’t appreciated at her current school (she’s an intervention specialist, so basically just a “helper teacher” in the eyes of most kids and adults alike ), I also got her a Ninja Blast portable blender, and her mom got her a sick-looking Stanley mug in her school’s colors.
Link?
gotta pay attention to “battery included” vs. not (they have a cordless system with other devices that use the same swappable battery)

Thanks!
Just bought a triple burner high pressure camp stove. I have a two burner stove now which cooks mostly fine but doesn’t have the brute force needed to keep oil hot when I’m doing a fish fry.
It had some one star reviews complaining about the dials getting burned off. I’m like, what are you talking about, it’s perfect!
Where are the dials in relation to the flames?
An oak porch swing, for my wife. She has been dreaming of a porch swing for a while, and the new covered porch will have plenty of room. Found an Etsy seller who appears to specialize in swings, sounds good.
I need to pimp out my front porch. I have a nice covered space that i rarely use. Your project is giving me some ideas.
I need to see what my dad has of all his old woodshop tools. I think he got rid of most of it 15 years ago when they moved, but if he still has his scroll saw, it might be time for it to head over to my place.
I’m starting from scratch here. We will basically have two areas, a smaller one (to the left in the pic I posted the other day), and a nice 10x12 space on the right.
It seems like 10x12 is a solid amount of room to get a table for six, no? So I guess we will need all of that. On the smaller side I was thinking the swing, one or two chairs, and a couple of small tables. That would give my wife and I a space to hang out with a beer or coffee, read a book, that sort of thing, plus the larger space for eating or entertaining.
I don’t know, what are people buying these days?
Well, looks like I am now “buying” one of these:
And possibly a band saw, and a nice belt sander. Both are on on stands.
From what I remember, the scroll saw was really nice. I passed on taking these all from my parents previously, but I organized my garage a few weekends ago, cleared out some things, so now I have room for more stuff. They will make for some fun weekend projects.
What does “buying” mean?
Seems like enough room you could do a few things with it if you wanted. I’d go for something like this:

Depending on the layout, maybe a small outdoor bar/buffet style table with mini fridge. Get a few nice outdoor speakers (think about running wires unless you go for powered wifi/bluetooth).
If you went with a table for 6 - would you use that often for meals? Guests could still the patio seating for that…I’m guessing it it will more often be less formal that you wouldnt feel a table is needed.
“Buying” is when I carry it out of my parents basement and they are happy that it is no longer there.
Good question on the table. I guess one way to think about it is whether or not I’d like to be able to eat with a knife and fork.
Yes to speakers, hadn’t thought of that. I will probably hardwire them, and get a small Bluetooth amp from Parts Express so I could stream. Easy.
I’d consider a fridge. Or maybe just a cooler, there was an antique Coke cooler for sale recently that I liked. Hmmm.
You have a back patio - what is out there? If you have a table, and that is nearer the kitchen, you will gravitate towards that for your outdoor dining. It will be shaded in the evenings in the summer when you are eating. I think your front patio will be hot in the middle of the summer until the sun sets…you won’t be eating a meal with a fork and knife.
