Had my first one since before Quarantine start 2 weeks ago. It sucked relatively speaking because I had not been sick for so long at all. My nose ran for 6 or 7 days like a water faucet. Then I spent 2 or 3 days coughing it out of my lungs. Finally clearing up the last day or 2.
Yeah, I haven’t had a cold (YAY!)
My office building is (was?) on an open plan, and I’m looking forward to going back sometime this summer (I assume). I won’t go back til I’m vaccinated, but once vaccinated, I’ll feel comfortable.
And I’ll stash masks in my desks, because I’m totally wearing a mask when it’s cold/flu season.
Ditto no colds or flu for me during this pandemic. Last cold was in 2019
My company just announced that the office will open July 1. But there is no expectation for any employee, even before COVID we were a remote company. If you want a spot in the office they will give you one, but even if you live near HQ you can work remote.
I’ve never met any of my coworkers in person, having started this job during the pandemic, so I’m hoping to go there over the summer.
You’re not vaccinated yet? I assumed you qualified.
I had a non covid virus that I have no idea where I caught it last month with a fever. Went and got tested for covid, it was negative, and about a day or so after I was better from that, cold symptoms appeared. Pretty sure I caught a 2nd virus which likely was a cold at the covid testing site. Maybe caught the first one at physical therapy since that’s the only place I go these days. Was odd though. Wear a mask there and i dont think my pt was sick. I dont get near anyone else
Same here, except I had an ILI in early March 2020, nothing since. Probably had one each winter historically, of varying intensity. Not sure about mask waring post pandemic, might do during cold/flu season like Campbell.
Oh, yeah, I guess I do (under obesity)
I was just going to wait til it was open for our age group
No colds here although my grown kids work in childcare and the one who catches everything caught everything. It was a pain bc every time she caught something she had to get a covid test.
We do have allergies, and that’s the same as usual.
On the mask front, we caught Covid while masking whenever we left the house, and hubby is pretty sure those he came into contact with were masked. It is likely a case of masks not worn correctly, as was mentioned earlier.
I have not stayed in my house the entire pandemic. I have worn a mask religiously when out and about. I have visited family, although we skipped big holiday gatherings. Oddly enough, the times when I thought, “I shouldn’t do this,” were not the times when anyone got sick. One of my sisters got sick, probably from work. Another had what may have been a mild case but because she didn’t have a temperature she never got tested. If she got tested she had to quarantine from work regardless of the result. And this is what I believe was the real problem with the spread of Covid near me. People have low paying jobs and can’t afford to be off work. So if they were just a little bit sick they went in and shared their germs. Even if they wore masks, if they were in a crowded office with open seating, they were going to share germs.
My daughter is almost two now and has been in daycare during the pandemic. We’ve had to get her tested 4 times (all negative) and kept her out of daycare for the 10 day exclusionary period one time (back when results were taking longer to turnaround so we wouldn’t have gotten results before she could go back anyway).
At least for our daycare it seems there is still a lot other stuff going around. Luckily there haven’t been any COVID outbreaks that effected us.
Fun little article from the Times about old people going to restaurants because they’re vaccinated.

My Stepmom hit the fully-protected-two-weeks-since-shot-#2 mark today.
They’re going out to dinner tomorrow, going to symphony this weekend… they are partying it up!
Good for them!
My parents hit the 2-weeks-since-#2 mark last week and are still being (overly, imo) cautious due to the doomsday messaging from CDC (& probably CNN) that they could still get infected & spread covid.
my mother got vaccinated immediately when they opened it up to seniors. she’s been doing inside dining.
I’m visiting my vaccinated parents this weekend. We originally planned on going to a restaurant but my mom decided she’s not yet ready. It’ll be 1 week and 5 days since her 2nd dose, so she’s totally safe, but I’m not going to argue. Take out and at-home cocktails is good enough for me!
A lot of the messaging has been “We don’t know because we don’t have the data, so let’s just be safe.” but that’s not what people hear. A lot of people when they hear “We have no data to support A,” they assume Not A is true.
I disagree with your first sentence that the messaging has clearly stated the uncertainty or been clear about “we don’t know about A because we didn’t collect data on A.” (see the related thread on US media negativity during covid).
I do agree with your second sentence that people often misinterpret what the statements mean, but that makes the messaging - both the words and tone - that much more important.
Communication involves both the ‘speaker’ and the ‘listener.’ If the listener isn’t hearing what the speaker intends, they haven’t communicated effectively.
Yeah, a lot of the communication has been horrible.
I think in general, public health concepts are difficult to explain to people because it’s not the way many people think. You do something, and you get some benefit in return. That’s how I believe most people think.
“If you do something, and everyone else does it too, it’ll benefit the public as a whole, but it may not benefit you at all, directly.” It’s a difficult concept for a lot of people to wrap their heads around.
My parents are the same way. Their big celebration 2 weeks after their 2nd shot was not going out to eat for the 1st time in a year, but was going to Sam’s Club together (they haven’t both gone to a store at the same time since this all started).
They live in a place where > 1/2 of the population thinks Covid “is just the flu” and everything is a plan by the Govt for a socialist takeover of the US. They do have some acquaintances that have died and a few close friends spent time in the hospital.
