Q: How do you propose we force transparency on the powerful?
A: By stripping them of the power over us.
Part 1: Repeal the following:
- SEC Rule 10b-18 (1982) Allowed Stock buy backs and created a voluntary “safe harbor” from liability for market manipulation.
- Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, 558 U.S. 310 (2010)
- Sarbanes-Oxley (2017)
Also break up conglomerates, and heavily monitor and remove monopolies in all forms. (I would also increase tax structures that benefit local and penalize outside community influence)
I’m sure there are more, rattling around in my head the names don’t come to me.
Part 2: Privacy, I have often ranted about the dilutions we hold that we the commoners have privacy. It is sold to us like racism, misogyny, and religious belief. It is just an emotional support structure to allow you to feel powerful on your own even as the you are stripped of power until you are nothing more than a slave with digital chains, a nearly valueless peon in a portfolio of one of your “betters.”
To protect us from the powerful we must have governmental structures that 1) Respond to us, 2) Are legally insulated from influence, 3) Have checks on their power.
It saddens me that we in America have fallen so far that the above must be explicitly stated.
Some timely points on transparency:
- Flock etc. fall under surveillance standards and since they are an increase in the power of the surveillance state they need a tightening of the statutes regarding abuse by law enforcement
- Audits, audits audits..
- No more Private Equity. You own it, your face is on it.
- All actions and all conversations by politicians are public. Yes there can be exclusions for necessary private conversations but those exceptions must be very hard to get and thoroughly documented. side note: one of the hardest things for this anarchist to accept was in a large government red tape actually protects us.
Part 3; The digital world needs to be addressed. We need to determine for lack of a better term a Bill of Rights for the digital self. That is, the digital self that is all of a person’s data that is recorded and saved whether it’s from a ring camera, a swipe of a card, or a Flock camera.
