We used actual paint. It was either that or tear off the crappy brick veneer. They did a horrible job installing it so there are some not-so-straight lines and the paint does a good job of hiding that.
Yeah, leveling by adjusting the front legs is way easier than messing with the back legs (if they were even designed to be adjustable). If that causes an issue with the tie in to cabinet at top front of dishwasher case, I’d suggest leveling first, then tying in. Use a spacer around the screw or shims if it bugs you.
Oh, if it’s veneer then paint away.
If it was a brick century home, that’s a no.
It’s a spectrum.
I bought a thousand dollars worth of quarter sawn white oak today, you guys.
Normally I could have gotten it cheaper but I needed a lot of 8” wide stock and that’s harder to find.
$24,000 for a new metal roof! the GoA lotto investors better win tonights MegaMillions - GeeZus!!!
Yikes! Hubs & I will be needing a new roof in the next few years. I’m curious about metal and how noisy it is / isn’t. Keep us posted on your experience, especially how you like it after it’s in.
rain on metal roof…hmmmm
I enjoy the sound of rain. I stayed in a AirBnB with a metal roof when it rained - nice noise imo.
The roofer did say that metal roofs were 2-2.5x regular. But WOW!
I’ve read conflicting accounts of rain noise, noise in general, and metal roofs, with some saying that the metal roofs are actually quieter, which I find hard to believe. But I guess they supposedly block out more sound.
I did do this. It took a whole 5 minutes, which is minutes I could have spent here yelling about politics.
I’m never doing handy work again!
We have a metal roof. It doesn’t look like a metal roof, it looks like normal asphalt shingles so people are always surprised when I tell them it is metal. I think we’ve had it for roughly 15 years and it looks the same as when it was installed. It was about three times the cost of asphalt when we replaced it. It is very much louder in a hard rain when I’m in the garage. In the house, not much difference because the insulation in the attic space seems to absorb most of the sound anyway. In a normal rain, there is no difference in sound at all. I hear more noise from the downspouts then the roof. No regrets.
I’m not an expert, but it depends on some factors. A fully exposed metal roof with no sheathing underneath (think of a barn) is loud as hell. But I assume T-Roy will have plywood sheathing underneath, which would cut noise a lot. And then a foot of insulation, and the sheet rock. Or maybe there are two layers of cement board up there?
I bet it’s still louder than asphalt, but perhaps not by much.
They are expensive but I’m told they may last twice as long. I’d love a metal roof from WF Norman but I suspect it’s way out of budget for me.
Get solar while you’re doing this. Heck, get solar shingles.
Are there companies besides Tesla that do this?
CertainTeed, GAF, a few others. I haven’t looked into it in a bit. Tesla roofs were quite expensive, the others are cheaper but it seems like for whatever reason the tech isn’t as far along as it is with panels.
I’d probably pay to get a solar roof, because I think the aesthetics work better on my old house. If I had a newer house I’d get panels.
I’m staying at a house with an touchless faucet which is both nice and annoying. The sensor at the top is fine but I keep accidentally triggering the one the side.
New quote from another roofer $17,000
WTF!
how big is ur roof/house?
Its pretty small, I’d estimate it at like 1,000 sq ft?
The shingle quote is $8,000. Dangit! I wish I didn’t get that quote!
Are you looking at the metal tiles, or a standing seam roof?
