Wesley Snipes gif.

To me, the white blends with the frame, while the black makes a distinction between window frame and shutter. JMO (RIP).

I’ve been told no black and blue together - “it looks like a bruise.” The white seems too bright. I say no shutters.

I like white, can you get wider ones? I know they won’t be functional, but the architectural nerd in me at least prefers the shutter width equal to half of the width of the window.

Our house has too-narrow fake shutters and it bugs me. Some day, when I get around to the windows, I’m putting wooden shutters on, perhaps even functional ones.

Yeah, if I were in a geography where functional shutters would provide their function, keep some of the cold air and hot sun off the windows, I’d get functional shutters.

But I’m in a place where I don’t need to do that too much (yes, the AC is on today, mainly because my wife is home on summer vaycay), and the house style (southwestern adobe) is not complementary to shutters. Also, we have big windows, and indoor shutters (don’t do the job of keeping the hot sun off the windows).

This is what I thought too. Then I could match the front door to something. The ladies of my life said NO to that.

And where are THEIR votes??

I successfully installed a dishwasher after unsuccessfully ordering a dishwasher installation.

Learning some sweet skillz! I am proud of ya! Did you use the existing hoses or were they all new?

New hoses. The drain hose is short, which means my sink might puke into my dishwasher, unless I buy an extension or an air-gap.

Also, it was tricky because I have no outlet there, the dishwasher sits where its cord goes through subfloor into the circuit box. This also results in it leaning so that the cup rack wants to slide backwards. I probably should have put it on sliders or something in the first place. Maybe I could raise the back a bit by shoving something deep under it (TWSS)? I’m not sure.

That seems odd…I the no you just put a coil in the drain hose…iirc?
And the drain hose normally goes into a nipple that’s at a 45 degree upwards angle, before the j in the sink drain, so it the sink shouldn’t go into the dishwasher.

The air gap was standard a while back for DW drains, I think now most just use a ‘high loop’ to prevent the sink from draining into the DW.

You make it go up and then down. But my drain hose is too short.

Re: bath remodel

Well, my carpenter has gone AWOL. I’ve tried calling since before we went on vacation July 3, goes straight to voicemail. So I guess I need a new carpenter.

I’m wading through forms now to get permits from the city, hope to get them submitted next week, might start demo this weekend.

Separately, it’s bleeping hot here, 100° yesterday. My son’s room is the attic, and it hit 82° yesterday. So we are insulating the walls between the finished space and the unfinished spaces to see if we can take the edge off. He has a one ton window unit for just 350 sq ft, but it’s the attic so it’s a challenge. If insulation doesn’t help then I’ll consider a slightly larger unit.

So we’ve stripped wallpaper as needed, repaired drywall, painted, and mostly put in new mirrors, light fixtures, outlet & switch covers, and vent covers in the finished basement, garage, living room, family room, dining room, kitchen, guest bedroom and guest bath. New carpet in the basement too.

But not yet most of the bedrooms or master bath, and the contractor still has some touch-ups to finish.

I think we’re going to take a break for a bit as hubby needs a new car and we’re also replacing some furniture and I’m going crazy trying to keep up with everything. :grimacing:

The contractor painted the family room & adjacent hallway the wrong color while we were on vacation, but I love it, so I decided not to say anything. (It was supposed to be the same color as the living room and they made it the same color as the kitchen.)

It’s all just so much to cope with. Still have much “putting the house back together” to do.

TWSS!!

What color for the stoop and that other weird line?
I was thinking the same grey that is on the side of the house

What about the front door color/material?

There isn’t brick under that grey? Or is the brick in the front merely for show?

Stoop should be same as the walkway.
AND, put some safety strips on there. Ivana might fall down those stairs!
(Too soon?)

BTW, I’m super curious if they realized they did this or if they still believe that they did it right. They haven’t said anything to me, and I haven’t said anything to them. I’m debating whether I should say something or not.

I can totally envision them getting halfway through and realizing “crap, it’s the wrong color” and then deciding “oh well, let’s just finish and see if twig notices”.

Would you say something if you were in my shoes? I’m leaning towards “no”.

You’ve got a few options:

  1. Say something, demand it be repainted to the correct color.
  2. Say nothing, live with the wrong color, rationalizing “eh, close enough.”
  3. Draft a yelp/google review, show it the contractors, demand some compensation (you’ll keep the wrong color, for a price), or else you press “submit.”
  4. Get your AR15 and wipe them out, cuz, you’ve been wronged in the worst way. Will need a “cleaning service,” and that costs a lot. Consider the cost/benefit.
