Okay, the construction in the basement is nearly done. Now I actually need to pick out a TV.
What’s good in "no more than 4’ tall?
I guess I should also plan for a sound bar. Where does it usually go?
Additionally, i want to get a small TV to mount on the wall in front of the treadmill I plan to buy. Any advice on that one? That will just be for movies/youtube/etc., up close. No gaming or anything like that.
I usually buy TVs that are Sony or Samsung. Your mileage may vary. I have never bought a TV from one of the cheaper (even if well rated) brands.
TVs are so cheap now compared to the past. I remember paying like $1600 for my first TV that was a 35" (non HD) back in the 90’s. Now you can find much bigger TV’s for under $500.
I would suggest that you measure the primary seating’s distance to the TV screen. I suggest a TV with a diagonal of between 40% and 45% of that distance. Example: If you are sitting 10 feet (120 inches) from the TV you want a TV with a diagonal of 48" to 55". I once had a larger screen set up in my basement, and it was annoying. It was like sitting in the front row of a movie theater. You could watch, but you had to move your head and eyes constantly to keep focused on different parts of the screen. It was not comfortable for long periods of time. Most of the sweet spots in TV deals seem to be around 55" and 65" screens, which will not be more than 4’ tall.
The sound bar goes under the screen, yet near the screen. Find one that has blue tooth so that you can play music off your phone or ipad when not watching tv.
I would just look for sale items at Costco and Best Buy. Maybe Amazon. I don’t know where else to actually buy a TV these days.
