Have we rounded the corner for the final time?

Do they elaborate on should? I mean I should not eat cheeseburgers but I do that too…

You and me both. We are getting all our info from the UK and Israel, because they are bothering to collect data. But our data would be more relevant to us.

CDC is not in the business of telling people what they must do. We do not live in such a country. (Yes, it is ironic that those against mask-wearing are also on the side of having a federal government tell people how and what to protest, what they’re allowed to think, what they can and cannot do with their bodies, as long as it agrees with their own politics.)

Counties, though, have that ability.
(And, in the case of L.A., the County Sheriff can claim he knows better than science, using his own science instead, and not enforce mask mandates.)

I was more thinking of it relative to some sort of risk tolerance. Like if you’re super worried about stomach cancer then you should never eat bacon. If I’m fully vaccinated then how much risk am I really exposed to by not being masked inside? Simply going “we recommend” doesn’t really tell me much.

What if they “strenuously recommend”?
I think when they “recommend,” it is not something they throw around lightly.

Also, it’s not about “you.”

You might STILL get COVID, because this Delta Variant is a bitch (no offense to actual bitches). It will likely be a milder form of symptoms, and you might not be as contagious. But you could spread it to others (children, the Can’t-Vaxxed) before your symptoms are noticeable.

You’d be doing it for others in the places you go. If that is too difficult to do, then I understand.

I tell people, “I wear a mask, for one simple reason, and it has nothing to do with politics: You don’t know where I’ve been.”
(The silent implication, of course, is that “I don’t know where you’ve been.”)

No unlike wearing a condom to have sex with a complete stranger. I mean, holy shit, that’s your dick you’re putting in there.

Yeah but medicine is complicated. There’s a whole host of things they tell you not to do when you’re pregnant, for example, and much of that is based on pretty flimsy (flimsy, or there’s no particular risk as a pregnant person, or particular risk to the fetus) evidence. It all comes down to how easy it is to recommend to take some precaution because the lost benefit of doing whatever it is you want to do is not seen as having any real value.

If the CDC strenuously recommends I wear a mask indoors despite being vaccinated in 3 years out of fear that there’s a 1 in 1,000 chance I spread it I’d probably say they’re overcautious. But I don’t know how cautious they’re being.

Fair enough.
I’m wearing my mask indoors in human-densely packed areas. I’ve done this since March 2020.
I STILL got COVID (before I was eligible to get a vaccination). And then I got vaccinated.

I can see my area’s COVID rates going up. I don’t need the CDC to tell me. The rest of the country? Yeah, they should heed the advice.

Careful or you’ll be used by Marcie as an example for the lack of mask efficacy!

@dr_t_non-fan not asking how you got it, but do you know for sure how you got it?

I know exactly how I got it and it wasn’t some random encounter at the grocery store.

You know how you got it and you never set up a womanspeak thread!?

:judge:

Not for sure. Only place I can think of was an Injun Casino.

But no one else in my household (nor a frequent overnight guest) got it during the several days I was probably contagious but didn’t know it, nor after I started quarantine.

So my area is red. We are WAY below the 50 per 100k threshold. But I guess we qualify based on the 5% positive? Or maybe the increases?

I mean, I already decided to start wearing a mask again in crowded indoor spaces. Bc of the increases.

But I don’t know how many articles I looked at today that said, “The CDC recommends…” but then did NOT provide information to help determine if you were in one of those places. I mean I did see that map but without state borders and it can be a little hard to read. (There are yellow counties near mine.)

The governor has said nothing (no surprise) and the mayor has said nothing (kind of a surprise). My pastor said we are masking up again.

I know I got Covid from my husband. I’m pretty sure he got it from work. They masked but I’ve seen how those guys wear their masks. Over their beards with gaps all over the place.

Is that like strenuously objecting in court?

I would like this to be true, but I am less confident than you that it is true.

I was going to give @dr_t_non-fan an RN for that. He seems to thrive on those.

At least this one wasn’t offensive to people that a poster might think were offended.

I recently went to four corners and masks were required, since it’s on tribal land and they can make their own rules. They had somebody going around and asking everyone not wearing a mask to leave the monument. We also went to a national park today and masks were required in all indoor spaces. The ranger said they only re-implemented the rule a couple of days ago.

IMO, they shouldn’t ease or remove restrictions unless they’re willing to live with a higher case rate. Because duh of course cases are going to rise. With the relaxing then reimposing restrictions, I don’t thing the public will take restrictions seriously anymore.

so far, Cuomo hasn’t put back the mask mandate or any restrictions despite other states doing so. we’ll see…
