Well, why though? Serious question.
Well, #1, so that it’s a resource for new people in the industry. But it seems like those resources are already available elsewhere.
#2, money or something. That ship has sailed. The forum produces $0 and will continue to produce $0 unless I come up with some way to sell you something. Which is unlikely. Remove the ‘grow big so advertising revenue’ and that really removes the driver for expansion.
Plus expanding is a really big job with not a high probability of success. Given the risks/costs, and no apparent benefit, I’m pretty meh about it.
I’m fine as it is. I don’t think that’s a criticism, though it may seem that way. There’s no need and no desire to start ramping this up.
Serena and I have discussed this repeatedly, had some ideas, tried some ideas, nothing seems viable and again, I question the purpose of such growth.
I mean, if I’m gonna make some Mr. Crabs level money, sure. But I don’t think that’s happening.
Also, we’re rolling out a $5 monthly service fee for moderators shortly. $10 if you want a paper copy of your bill.
Nobody has voted in the under 30 categories yet.
Lobster guy wants his $8.
you could start selling blue checkmarks for $8/month…
He’s SpaceLobster, not Elon Mollusk.
We actually did on the old AO if you recall. Folks paid some amount and got some sort of pin on their userid.
We’ve since rolled out a new policy. Rather than the forum being the product, now, you’re the product!
We were SiteSupporters.
And they were VERY helpful (and appreciated) at the time.
r/actuary isn’t great. Occasionally, there is something good, but it falls off the front page too quickly or gets shut down because it’s too good. This is nice example of a thread I wish existed here:

Also, there have been some ominous threads about Oliver Wyman that keep getting deleted before I know what’s going on. I need details!
how much under 50? The current distribution is
under 30: 0
30-34: 5
35-39: 6
40-44: 8
45-49: 8
50-54: 6
55-59: 4
60-64: 7
65+: 1
The median appears to be 45-49. So people in that age range don’t move the average much either way.
WTAF? Maybe if you were taking lots of exams in a sitting. I paid for 100 and 110 myself and I think I would remember that.
How much if I want a professionally bound copy?
Because any group that doesn’t have a source of growth shrinks. Also, new blood brings new interests and new discussion topics and keeps the place fresh. I don’t think you need a lot of growth to meet either of the goals I have in mind. And you don’t WANT a lot of growth unless you can somehow monetize it, because larger servers cost more to run. But a trickle of growth would be a good thing, imho.
They weren’t $1,200 when i took them but I’m a bit older than 169… but i do remember the cost being a significant hardship for me to pay for and i had to go to 1 particular math library on campus because they had a single study guide you could only use in the library and there was no way I could afford a study guide.

WTAF?
My memory has faded faster than my good looks, so you know it’s pretty unreliable.

I’m a bit older than 169
Whoa, mental image of MAX changing…
I paid for the old 100, 110, 120, and 140 out of my own pocket. I wasn’t making much money as I was in a nonactuarial job then, and I remember it was a bit of a hardship to pay for them. I’m sure each big part was well under 1k though.

I’m a bit older than 169
I wonder what the mortality table looks like for a Dúnadan.
