Happy Thoughts

It’s good that Delta diverted to save the doggo.

I can see some debate for whether people or pets requiring medical diversions should have flown in the first case, or of whether flying pets is cruel to both the pet and potentially allergic passengers…but such debate almost has to occur on a case-by-case basis.

I’m fine with it as long as passengers are compensated for the inconvenience. Refunds or vouchers for everyone, especially if they miss connecting flights or whatever. Glad the dog is ok.

Wikipedia doesn’t indicate any of her children were hit. So both sources agree: Happy Thought.

I bought a snow blower recently. It was $100 at an estate sale, it’s an older Craftsman, made in Canada, near mint - I’d guess maybe 1990s.

My back isn’t in the best shape and maybe I should have bought one years ago. We got 7-8” of snow here. This would normally take me hours and hours with a shovel, I’ve got a little clean up to do with the shovel but I got the whole job done in 90 minutes, and I can still walk.

I spent a truly terrifying amount of time over the last 6 months leading a team to design, test, validate, and automate a new pricing model structure for PRT type deals, and we managed to get it all done before the end of the year. Now I can actually relax a bit over Christmas break.

It may be one of the last Craftsman snow blowers made in Canada! Like most small manufacturers, the production moved to the US in the aftermath of the Canada-US Free Trade Agreement.

I quit those damn gas blowers years ago. Pigs that require gas and oil, are loud, and hafl the time they don’t work for the first snowfall.
I went with a small $150 corded snowthrower a few years ago. It’s been great, though I have literally beaten the living crap out of it. Well, this first snowfall, it pretty much died bleating.

So now I have to decide. I detest gas blowers. Too cheap to spend $2K on a battery. The corded ones aren’t any better than what just died.

I’m seriously considering just spending $50 on a shovel for my spouse.

I don’t want a cord, we have some elderly neighbors and I clear their walks, and my driveway must be close to 100’ long. With gas or a cordless guy, I just walk to the end of the block and back. And I’m also trying to move away from gas, but for $100 I figured this was a good toe in the water to see how I like it. I still have a gas mower as well, it’s fine.

For $150, did you get the thing that looks like a shovel? I have always wondered if those were effective because they sure are cheap. And honestly, if you have to drop $150 every three years, that’s not the end of the world.

no it’s a bit more serious than a shovel, bit less than a snowblower.

the fact that I have a 100’ cord and it’s 100’ to the edge of my property is not coincidental. I can’t do anyone else’s. I used to do 6-7 properties every time it snowed. then I had an accident (well, it was on purpose) and was laid up for six weeks. my wife and 10yo son had to shovel all of February. nobody stepped up including my next door neighbour who owns a snowblower. I am still quite pissed about this, so corded works fine for me lol. but I get it, doing the neighbours is a friendly thing I used to do.

Yeah, super annoying when you had someone who could have helped and didn’t. I’m mostly concerned with two houses that sit behind ours. One is owned by a ~70 year old woman, the other is owned by a couple that are probably closer to 80. Really nice folks, who obviously aren’t in the snow removal game.

I remember the expression on my mother’s face when my dad bought her a new vacuum cleaner for Christmas when I was a kid….it was state of the art but he never bought something like that again.

I wonder if pets on board are listed as ‘souls’ when emergency declarations are done and they have to report that to air traffic control? I doubt it. And I don’t remember ever reading about any pet deaths in accident reports.

I used to joke about doing this, one year I did actually buy a Miele vacuum around the time of my wife’s birthday and told her it was her gift. She briefly thought I was serious.

So my wife and I were grocery shopping this morning. A lovely lady comes up to us and tells my wife that her husband has the best hair in the neighbourhood. My wife smiled and told her that I already know that.

Made me happy as we were on our way back from the hospital where I had just had surgery to remove still another carcinoma. I needed some flattering.

yeah, try being me. I have a luxurious full head of hair, make a grown man jealous. I’m married to someone who I know prefers a bald head lol.

I actually tried bald during covid. Yeah, not a good look for me. Not a good look at all.

Was driving earlier down a two lane road, 35mph. Caught a deer around 2 o’clock about 50 feet to my right, heading right towards the road on front of me. Slammed on the brakes just in time for him to pass ahead of me.

Really lucky i saw him as it was just after sunset and getting dark. Would have been a solid hit for sure.
