Tamales!? Wonderful work

Mini Me is at the amazingly awesome age where she ENJOYS vacuuming. And we’ve had a cleaning lady for most of her life so it’s still very exotic and special.

Today she was super excited that she GOT to vacuum grandma’s living room & hallway and a little bit of the dining room. Mama did the bit right around the table (which still had grandma’s crystal on it from our 20-person dinner last night) so there’s still a mysterious privileged aura around vacuuming.

I remember when my cousins (13 and 15 years younger than me and I lived with them one summer during college) were this age and it was glorious with them and it’s glorious now with Mini Me.

We had tamales last night. Cooked them up in the air fryer and they came out great!

Those aren’t mine, but I was able to find some fresh tamales locally. It is our traditional Christmas Eve meal.

I have never tried the air fryer, but we do frequently warm them in the oven. The air fryer typically isn’t big enough.

I think we had like 15 of them in there. It’s an attachment for our insta-pot thing.

We ditch a vehicle today. :green_heart:

this is a thing? I have an instant pot, and there used to be an air fryer here until 6 months ago that I appreciated. You’re telling me I could get something that would do the same but not add to the footprint on the counter? Say more.

Yeah it 's like a basket thing that sits inside. It’s not huge, but it works great. We do tater tots in it sometimes, and it worked great for the tamales.

We have the Mealthy one. Apparently the insta-pot one is even better

You like yours? I’ve thought about trying it.

Air fryer is pretty small, so it’s not great if you are cooking for lots of people. Works fine otherwise. Definitely appreciate the counter space. More room for the ridiculous number of houseplants that we have acquired.

Turns out the tamales were just in the steamer basket, which worked out great. I wasn’t doing the cooking in that one.

That makes more sense to me. I’ve used the strange setting in our instant pot and put them in a rice cooker before as well. My air fryer is like a large toaster oven so that’s why I my brain went that way.

I had a pleasant experience at the DMV this morning

I gotta admit that the BMV closest to my house is pretty good. They seem to know what they’re doing, and there’s rarely a long line and they’re always friendly. About the best you could possibly hope for.

My nephew had a bad experience with another BMV though. When he got his initial driver’s license they screwed up and gave him a state ID by mistake. A few months later the insurance company noticed and called SIL and they looked closer and sure enough it was a state ID, not valid for driving. But he’d passed the test & everything… it was the gal’s second day working there and she simply screwed up. He got a real license quickly and for free after my brother went in there more than a little PO’d. Thankfully Nephew hadn’t been pulled over in that time.

And thanks to whichever of your employers was the insurer who called them and clued them in to the problem. (Probably USAA as he’s military, but I’m not sure.)

Are your motor vehicles in a Bureau?
Mine are in a Department.
I wonder what other acronyms are out there.

Actually I think I went to the drivers license division which is separate from the dept of motor vehicles.

I guess those two things aren’t similar enough to be in the same dept but alcohol tobacco and firearms…why not?

I’ve moved around and been to both BMVs and DMVs. I’m not positive it’s Bureau where I am now, but I think it is.
