Who else will be starting the new year off properly tomorrow with hoppin john and greens?
I am waaaaaaaaaaay north of the Mason-Dixon line, but it does sound right tasty!!! 
Will you be including a ham hock??? 
Often, but lately we usually toss in a smoked turkey leg instead which will be the case tomorrow.
It’s a delicious meal regardless of where you live, but the ingredients may prove more challenging to obtain in some areas

Evidently lentil soup is an Austrian(?) tradition akin to eating collards and black eyed peason New Years Day.
