Probably because it covers all school age children and was easier than say picking out age 5-18.

You actually have to go out of your way to pick 1-18 from WONDER. I had to force it into single-year age groups, and then select 1-18. I started w/ 5-year age groups because that’s easy.

But they have to exclude infants, because that will obviously distort things:

[I have that ready to go for a talk tomorrow - but that’s the general shape one sees for total deaths in the U.S. by single ages among minors]

Life Insurance question: how much is one-year term life for a just-born human? Is that even offered? There are possible financial issues and pain and suffering.

Asking for a friend, of course.

Googles says its offered. I’m not taking their questionaire to see what it costs.

Normal Life Insurance UW is to wait 15 days before covering a new infant.

Lol. Regarding the Christmas card, NBC posted this:

You don’t find it meaningful that guns have overtaken autos as the leading cause of death for children-who-aren’t-infants?

Well, it makes it harder to quip “we should ban cars before we ban guns.”

Nashville PD released security camera footage of the shooter entering the building. You won’t see anyone being murdered in this video, but you’ll see how the shooter got in the school.

I challenge anyone to watch this and make a case for legal semi-automatic rifles.

If this is the footage you’re talking about, you absolutely do see the shooter getting shot. Murder would be the wrong word for it - but that was a bit misleading. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ue2tZa4hT0c

Okay maybe you were looking at a different video.

I previously owned a gun, hunting rifle, bought it for my ex husband, ownership wasn’t transferred until long after the divorce. Never shot it.

Thanks for the warning. I don’t want to watch video of anyone being fatally shot.

I’m sure there are people who actually believe that, but the more common theme that I see is that, because it’s easy to fake being trans if you’re a predator, you can’t easily distinguish the predators from the real trans women.

Yeah, for most people being on medication for mental illness probably reduces their likelihood of killing. That said, it can be tricky finding the right medication and there are cases where a new medication actually makes the problem worse.

I am 100.0000% certain that those subtleties are NOT what MTG was referring to though.

It sounds like it’s more a matter of guns being the leading cause of death of 15-18 year olds (or 15-19 year olds). Guns are NOT the leading cause of death for 1-14 year-olds. But saying that guns are the leading cause of death among 1-18 year-olds sounds a lot scarier than saying they are the leading cause of death of 15-19 year-olds so that’s what we’ll say because our goal isn’t to promote understanding, it’s to scare people.

And since so few 1-14 year olds die, by lumping them in with 15-18 year olds we can still claim guns as the leading cause of death because most of the dead 1-18 year-olds are actually 15-18 years old. And we’ll get rid of those mean 19 year olds because they’re not as sympathetic and our misleading statistic is still true without them. We’d like to get rid of the 18 year-olds too, but we need them to keep the scary-sounding statistic true so we’re stuck with keeping the 18 year-olds.

It’s one of those “how to lie with statistics” things.

The body camera footage is pretty horrifying even without that part - I would caution anybody with school-aged children from this one.

Yeah, it’s interesting to see the 0 year-olds broken down further by age. Elsewhere on GoA meep has provided this data. The lion’s share is 0-4 weeks IIRC. And I’m sure even that is heavily skewed to the 0-2 week range.

I’m surprised the cutoff is as low as 15 days, but I assume the premium is still pretty high.

That said… why would you want OYT on an infant? Even if you somehow knew your baby was going to die before its first birthday, wouldn’t it be cheaper to buy 10YT? You stop paying the premiums as of the date of death. Excess premiums paid are refunded at death or premium earned but unpaid is deducted from the death benefit.

The video I linked to (or at least intended to link to) was only the security footage of the shooter entering the school. There is separate police body camera footage of the police killing the shooter, but that’s not the video I linked.

I just see that he was asked about the photo and then got a “thanks for watching our YouTube channel…” Did the Representative actually say something about the photo / card? If so that wasn’t on the video that I got when I clicked on the link in your post.
