Oooooh! The candy store!!!
I googled this today, and most of the hits I got were from car audio discussion boards… circa 2010 or so, lol.
Good thing the deck makers and giant streamers conspired to extinctualize the iPod and make everyone spend even more on music that they already own.
My most impressive single haul was a full size couch and two decent sized recliners.
Have most people been buying music for the last decade or more? I sold/gave away all my CDs in Australia. I’ve got a box full of CDs in my mom’s basement. I don’t listen to a lot of late 90s/early 2000s music these days. There’s only so much Savage Garden and Matchbox 20 you can listen to.
Speak for yourself!
I fought it for a while, I do like to own things, and sometimes the album art is cool. But honestly, I spent more than $10/mo on CDs, so streaming is cost-effective, and now I basically have every song I could ever want on my phone, and in my car, or on my computer.
I suppose if you like CDs and only buy a handful per year, it would be less expensive.
This is your problem right here.
It was a different era. Things were different then.
Back then, when you got knocked down, you got up again.
Maybe a whisky drink and a vodka drink?
Oh Danny boy…
Ah, the Golden Age…
Subscribing to a stream is buying music. Well, renting it.
I was a teenager in the 80s and for decades after I was convinced that 80s music sucked. Then I realized that the radio stations had only played the crappy 80s music so I’ve spent the last 12 months using streaming to discover the good stuff I’d missed. Sadly, some of the bands are no longer touring.
Incidentally, OMD (if anyone here has heard of them) released a highly-touted new album in 2023 (43 years after their first) that I like a lot.
I heard some decent music growing up mostly in the 90s. But one genre I absolutely loathed was country. Because all I ever heard was top 40.
I got to college and discovered Uncle Tupelo and Lucinda Williams. Turns out I didn’t hate country, just the pop country of the day.
I’ve been reliving the 80s with Youtube and SiriusXM 33.
This one gets a lot of play on road trips for us.
Also 34 for 90’s stuff. That’s pretty good too.
SiriusXM - is that like satellite radio still? Does it still sound like a crusty cassette tape?
My point was more about the comment of streaming music making people pay for music they already own. I’ve got a bunch of CDs from ~20-25 years ago that. I don’t listen to. Most of the music I listen to is more recent.
I think we now call that category “americana” to separate them.
