Wait, there’s another lady neighbour???

Total !!!

Til learned you should put mulch around beets. Hoping to plant a second roumd of beers this weekend or early next week. Probably still won’t mulch though.

Hopping and beers go together!

Wait, beer grows on trees?

Oh neat, and they grow in glass bottles, so the squirrels and deer can’t get at them. BRB, running to garden store now.

Took the dog for a run in the bush and to do a check for blackberries. Gonna be a couple more weeks. I got one handful as a snack. Also turns out, they’re not blackberries. They’re black raspberries.

Although they may not be the same exact species, that looks very much like the common ones we have here. They ripened about 2 months ago. In the last three years, a slightly different species has shown up, “vinier” stalks, with different thorn patterns, and bulbier fruit.

Well now im getting told that theyre mullberries.

Too round to be mulberries. Do the bushes have thorns?

Leafsnap search yields genus Rubus (blackberry/bramble) perhaps R vestitus, or R ulmifolius (elm-leaf).

those are blackberries

Definitely blackberries, both from the fruits and from the cane.

Mulberries look like blackberries, but they grow on trees, not on canes.

beets and carrots getting huge!

I planted a second round of beets. Rabbits razed the entire crop i planted at home, and nothing came up in the community garden. All thats left are carrots and pumpkins now.

But, friday im taking students to raid buddies pear trees!

Yes. We started a herb garden (in pots) as our little one enjoys gardening. Dill, Basil, tarragon etc. The 2nd picture is the Basil that has grown well. The little one was also super happy about using some of the herbs to accompany a few salads (dill was great).
