When he proved himself to be untrustworthy to complete deals made with Democrats, they have no obligation to help keep somebody like that in the speakership.
the recent deal he DID make was the CR to keep the govt open. Dems removed the Ukraine piece to get it done w assurances it was coming. he then spent the weekend on TV blaming D’s for wanting to shut the govt down. So he’s untrustworthy. Makes me think Ukraine is about to implode
McCarthy said on TV a couple of days ago that he didn’t want to make a deal with the Democrats to keep him as speaker. He also declined to have the House take a recess this week as originally planned, knowing that this vote was coming. And he refused to postpone the vote so that the CA delegation could attend Feinstein’s funeral. He clearly didn’t want the job anymore, but somehow felt he would rather make history by being voted out than resigning.
omg the fake conservatives on Twix dogging Mark Levin for being honest about Gaetz being dishonest (and self-serving, and many other things)
So what does evicting Pelosi do? Move her to a broom closet in the basement with no stapler?
Wait til she finds out she’s not going to get a paycheck.
Sounds like a problem that will now take care of itself without requiring an uncomfortable conversation with an employee.
Some fiscal conservatives and many libertarians/“libertarians” are increasingly unhappy with the amount of money being sent to/spent on Ukraine without what they perceive to be clear benefit to the US.
That crowd is becoming getting noisier and gaining traction in influencing the GOP.
That’s all it is, I think.
(Note: Yes I lean libertarian. I’m in the camp of support for Ukraine currently being a necessary evil for the obvious reasons. I don’t subscribe to the other position, despite knowing where it’s coming from.)
she has offices in another building like they all do. but the speaker and former speaker and some others have some space actually in the Capital. she had the extra space in the Capital but no longer.
saw this yesterday. consider the source and all. if accurate, still some perspective
So the leading candidates for Speaker of The House are a guy who compared himself favorably to David Duke and a guy who covered up sexual abuse of college students. Awesome.
It is accurate as of 2010, 2.6% of the discretionary budget and under 1% overall.
so then the argument is that the 1% investment is our insurance to keep our direct military spending smooth?
I think the argument is that 1% of the budget going to foreign aid hinders the ability to increase defense spending - which is already like 15% of the budget - another 10% or more, and that would be grossly excessive for maintaining a proper defense of the nation and keeping all equipment and facilities in good working order, of which we don’t do the latter two anyway be barely sufficient for this year.
Oh, that actually makes sense.
Reduced foreign aid → more foreign conflict → more neoconservative-style foreign intervention → more military spending → mercenaries and gun manufacturers profit
Actually, among some of the fiscal conservatives and libertarians (although I am uncertain that any such folks were elected to Congress) there’s also resistance to funding extensive foreign presence/activity by our military, even beyond grumbling regarding Ukraine.
A subset of this crowd may still be pro-military, and OK with buying all kinds of toys for the military, but they still want the DoD to focus on defending our shores rather than projecting power and peacekeeping.
(When my inner libertarian is asleep, I’m allowed to say that that’s an extremely myopic viewpoint, even if I empathize with the amount of spending as compared to supporting revenue.)
RadioFreeTom presumably took these numbers from a Pew Research Centre poll which showed these results. Citizens in other countries are probably equally ignorant of how small foreign aid actually is.
CNN reporting on Republicans saying that McHenry would never kick Pelosi out of her office, that was McCarthy’s call, and that McCarthy is going to be moving into her office as part of his revenge tour.
Wait until Gaetz demands McCarthy gets kicked out of that office and relegated back to an ordinary one as part of conditions of going along with the new speaker.
If that happens, I’ll pay to send moving boxes to Kevin.
EDIT: can’t decide if this is merely NDI or really GDI. Mrs. Hoffman said we should have kept the cat piss-covered boxes and sent those to Kevin to help him move. Fucking brilliant opportunity, wasted.
