You obviously didn’t expect me to add value to this thread.
We had to listen to WCCO (radio). This stuff wasn’t on TV. Anyway - two hours late, no morning kindergarten.
I also used to listen to the radio for announcements, WSB specifically.
I can qualify for the “Senior” poker tournament at age 50, which is only like 3 years away.
Unless age is the only qualification, I can’t qualify at 75.
I was pulled over, handcuffed, and breathalized for drinking a fruity seltzer in a can, in a convertable car, when I was 17 y/o. Cop thought it was laced with booze (it wasn’t). My aunt was the dispatcher. The car belonged to another police officer of the same city that I was doing work for at the time (and he let me use the convertable to do so). I was delivering mammograms from physician offices to the hospital. I was still paid my hourly wage ($10 per hour). This gained me $5. I want to tell you the race of the police officer, but, I don’t think that is appropriate.
But BOTH my aunt AND the police officer who’s car I used said this ASS of a cop has been given a talk to/put on leave because of this abuse before, MANY TIMES!!!
We had no local TV stations; the closest was Denver channels and that was over 5 hours of drive time away.
So it was the radio or “take your chances”.
Full disclosure, the only time school was cancelled was when a big freeze knocked out the nearby power generation plant and they sucked up all of the natural gas to get started back up. Since the hospital was impacted, the Superintendent volunteered to have the schools close for two days so that the gas lines for the city could get re-pressurized and allow the hospital priority in getting gas for heating.
I don’t know if it was on TV or not, but we had a radio in the kitchen and the TV was in the basement so I only ever listened on the radio.
Adding insult to injury was when the bus driver would have the radio on and we’d be riding the school bus listening to the very long list of school closures that did NOT include our district. We were one of the last to close. EVERYONE else would close and we’d be open, it seemed like.
