My wife and son have that gene.
As a kid I’d always wondered why these particular numbers (besides the size, fidelity, content length tradeoff) - that is, what these particular numbers have in common. This pic made me finally look it up. It turns out they’re geared-down ratios from a common 3600rpm motor. 46:1 => ~78. 80:1 => 45. 108:1 => 33 1/3.
