Lol, that’s relevent this morning. I interact with a lot of 20yo’s. I’m up, had a coffee, checked my email, studied for half an hour and posting on discord by 6:30am. Meanwhile they’re responding to me or texting me hours after I’ve been asleep.
I check GoA when I’m having my morning coffee, I notice @meep is often on here even before I am.

Funny, but unsettling as well. Willem Dafoe in Pretty Woman. Hopefully the link works.

that is creepy. [shudder]

I wake up at 3am.

I usually play logic puzzles for about an hour before I do Wordle.

I don’t remember where I heard about Scott’s Cheap Flights, but I’m on their mailing list. Today they sent out an email about updates to travelers’ rights and how there are now fewer exceptions. The last one made me laugh out loud…literally:

It does not matter if:

  • Your ticket is marked as non-refundable (e.g. basic economy)
  • It’s on a foreign airline flying into/out of a US airport
  • It’s not the airline’s fault (e.g. a global pandemic or bad weather)
  • You bought your ticket through a third party (though they may charge you a processing fee)
  • Your flight is on Spirit

I’m a big fan of Scott’s Cheap Flights, I’ve booked several great deals with their emails.

Does anyone actually say their access to the internet is limited? I generally say my access to email and voicemail is limited, because it is intentionally limited by me (this is the quiet part).

What does ā€œURBAN SPEECH BUBBLEā€ mean? Is there a joke there that I’m too old to get?

I usually say it’s really Stu’s vacation and I’m having to look after our autistic son. Also, I’m not taking my work laptop and I don’t have a smartphone.

I used to, when I worked for a company that expected emails to get answered when I was on PTO. I once took a bike ride across Missouri in part due to the fact that I couldn’t bring my computer, and there were long stretches with no cell phone service.

I don’t work there anymore. Current employer understands what PTO is.

Yeah, if I don’t take my work laptop now, I can’t access the company anything. I refused to allow the software the company wanted to put on my phone that would allow them to wipe my phone so I could have access to the company network/email from my phone.

I used to be able to access my virtual machine from my personal laptop via a vpn but it doesn’t work that way and I’m less likely to take the company laptop on a personal vacation so now if I go on a personal vacation, I’ll be totally unavailable for work. If I’m going on a personal trip to visit my grown kids somewhere I would probably take the company laptop.

My vacations are beyond the reach of normal internet. I don’t do warm sandy beaches. I don’t do ā€œfunā€ resorts. I don’t do tourist sights. All my kids are grown and don’t need ice cream every evening. They actually enjoy my excursions into the void and happily join me. I’m not getting a satellite phone or something crazy so I can have internet access.

The 80s called and I will be answering that call.
