Inthe Canadian agency world, you can’t get CE credits for writing or instructing courses. I find it absurd that I can host a session and everyone else gets credit but me.
Ah, but often I have to do additional research, etc., to put my stuff together. That counts.
i often learn more when teaching something than when being taught something
free CAS webcast:
Python for Actuaries
Thanks to TIA’s Eddie Smith for pointing out that’s freely available…
and here’s CAS’s online learning in general:
I found a few others that were also free.
What kind of actuaries use python? Is that mostly a CAS thing?
In my life roles I’ve only used SAS, SQL, & VBA for Excel.
I’ve used python for file processing purposes. (before, I used to use Perl for the same purpose)
I used Python in annuity pricing for matrix work, especially if the alternative is a lot of nested for-loops in VBA.
APL FTW.
:ctm:
Why take up so much space when you can do everything in one line?
And then to debug, you just delete that line & rewrite from scratch!
I’m way behind on CPD for this year, so thanks for posting these opportunities. Listened to one of the ACHS recordings and found it useful and interesting.

That was good. The work affects life /disability actuaries too, although I’m sure health actuaries have access to much more relevant and interesting data than us life folks. We just deal with the aftermath.
Thanks MPC for the link and reminder!
Yeah, that was a good session. I hope I can make tomorrow’s, but I have other things surrounding it.
