For my fellow Catholics

Pope Leo kicks off a rave.

I find the following announcement encouraging as a Protestant.

I would be interested in hearing thoughts from Catholics.
Doctrinal Note on Marian titles: Mother of the faithful, not Co-redemptrix - Vatican News

I have no issue.

She’s Queen (Mother) of the Universe, among other titles, so no need to get piggy with other ones.

Here is one of the many litanies for the BVM:

and, to be fair, I go to a Church of St. Joseph, and on Wednesdays we do a Litany of St. Joseph, so you will see similar:

But mainly, the co-redemptrix title was being used uncharitably – people used it for prottie-baiting (by the sort of people who use the phrase “prottie-baiting”) as well as to annoy other Catholics they considered insufficiently devout. Pope Benedict XVI said it confused people unnecessarily, so don’t do that. Sounds reasonable to me.

ok, it does seem we’ve moved past people throwing stuff at the Pope, but it’s hilarious – he is amassing an amazing sports memorabilia collection

Just finished reading “The Pope at War: The Secret History of Pius XII, Mussolini, and Hitler” and enjoyed it very much. I think the author does paint a good picture of what Pius XII was facing right before his election, during the early stages of Nazi aggression and the start of the War, and how things changed after the US entered the European theater.

I was always bothered about his silence regarding the Holocaust. I knew that there was considerable sanctioned prejudice against “unbaptized Jews,” by the Catholic Church during that time period; but they were even more against taking life (outside of military conflict). I won’t spoiler the book, but I think it does provide good, objective insights to what was going on and the pressures faced at the time.

I am waiting for his AI encyclical
