Ughhh, I gotta do it.
Between that, home renovation, and some other major expenses lately, weāre really scraping the bottom on liquidity. Have enough safety in non-retirement funds, but not liquid.
I need to do an extension
Got my federal tax refund . . . still waiting for my state return . . .
Just filed my return: got a fat 3 (THREEEEEEEEE) digit refund coming!!!
Iām lending the govt 5 digits until I can dig myself out of work and life enough to file⦠my contribution as a patriotic American ā¦
e-Filed mine Saturday. It will probably take them a week to cash the check.
Tried to efile over the weekend. IRS rejected it and now I have to mail in a paper return.
Pretty annoying, but at least I owe some on both federal/state so Iām assuming it will take them a little while longer to cash that.
Havenāt stated yet, but my sister-in-law-in-law said I should itemize because CA State is different from Fed.
That would suggest that perhaps you should itemize one of them.
My program does both simultaneously.
But it doesnāt let you itemize on just one? Turbotax lets you enter you federal itemized deductions even if you are not itemizing for federal.
I will itemize once at the beginning. The Fed standard deduction is greater, so moot. The State return will include those deductions.
Regardless of timing, Iām doing it once.
I use H&R Blockās software, after Intuit pissed me off one year.
In Block, and TurboTax back in the day, the program was perfectly happy letting me put in all the information for itemized deductions and then making the determination of whether to itemize or take the standard deduction.
Both programs had the option to manually override the programās decision for various cases it couldnāt fully automate.
FWIW, Iāve been using TaxSlayer for quite some time. Iāve been happy with the program to date.
Iāve never before done a payment plan for my taxes. My therapist mentioned it when I expressed annoyance that Iād have to sell stocks in a downturn to pay my taxes (on top of other recent large expenses).
Itāll cost about $100 in interest to pay it off over 6 months rather than $9k today. Thatās not a bad deal, Iāll take it. Return submitted/accepted almost immediately, setting up the plan. The IRS website really sucks. $26 paid to the state.
Done.
Took an hour or so.
Paying $8500 to fed and state. They can bill me for the penalties.
Trying to change my withholding, but it seems unpossible.
Ive never been charged a penalty for owing a bunch. I had the same feeling, let them ask. Never did.
Mailed state for me and daughter (me owing about 1,000; her about 270) today. Also mailed state (different state) for my mother; she owed nothing but also paid nothing, so no refund involved. All three federal had already been e-flled, daughterās just yesterday.
Same, although that was through years of generally rising income where what was withheld in any given year was still higher than my liability from the prior year. I am trying to be more careful now where incentive comp can swing that the other way, last year was the first time I had a material drop year over year, ended up owing a few hundred.
