Yes, yes i do. Trump is trying to flood the news with so many atrocities that some of them slip through. We should do the same. Create so much noise and so much opposition that it’s hard to find the stuff that actually matters.
The downside, is, of course, the risk that matters will deteriorate such that the SS drags you off to Gitmo, or someplace domestic they establish for reeducation and/or to promote freedom through labor.
I do agree that it is absolutely the moral thing to do to call out government abuses of power. However, there are risks to doing so. At least until the handbasket descends to a lower layer of hell than we’re already at, there are certain lines that probably shouldn’t be crossed.
Statements that could be arguably misconstrued as threats that are arguably illegal could be over the line.
And if/when the handbasket continues on to that lower layer…well, that sets up all sorts of interesting questions of morality. It’s probably best to consider those questions before they need to be answered in practices.
(Sadly, an argument could be made that there would be a risk to working out answers to those questions in places where documentation of that process might land one on a list someday.)
When a fascist regime gets its legs, anything that’s uttered or done that appears contrary to the regime’s wishes and demands will be used as grounds for being sent away.
I have a lot of thoughts here, but I also have work to do. I’ll probably drop $0.02 off and on.
Absolutely. And i agree that actually advocating anything illegal, or making threats, is a line i, personally, don’t want to cross. I certainly haven’t meant anything I’ve said to be construed as either.
You think they care?
Bump…
Saw a protest this morning on an overpass that said, “Follow the rule of law.”
Unsure which side that’s on.
I can imagine someone thinking “Trump is the Rule of Law.”
