can EVs charge on, like, a massive Qi wireless charger?
then that would be awesome if parking lots had those in all the parking spots.
I believe Qi requires contact? That might be harder to do with a vehicle (apart from the tires or a section that lowers to the ground when parking). There are a number of technologies out there -

Actively looking for a used EV to replace my car (though wife will drive to and from work, and I’ll drive her current car, saving a good ).
I don’t want to spend more than $30K. I might have to go to a place (outside CA) that cannot sell its used EV except for a song.
I also need to write a song.
Perhaps invest in solar panels as well, so the variable cost of charging the EV is $0. (The upfront cost, though… well, if I eventually sell the house, they are hopefully a financially attractive addition for potential buyers.)
I’d be interested to hear what you decide on. Nevada, Oregon, Washington and Colorado have a lot of EVs. Arizona and Utah have quite a few for red states.
When I was recently shopping around for used EVs there were quite a few for sale in California, but also plenty in Arizona (Phoenix) and Nevada (Vegas). I live in the same general vicinity as DTNF. After a few weeks of searching, one popped up right in my small city, so I jumped on it because convenience.
Reminds me a little of a trip to the beach we take regularly in an ICE. Going interstate the whole way with high speed limits is the general recommendation. That consumes basically an entire tank of gas in my car. Going backroads through some small towns is shorter mileage and is mostly 55mph, so it consumes a couple gallons less gas. Takes 20 minutes longer, but it is a more pleasant drive. We usually do that as a result. Haven’t bothered to see what chargers are around when we eventually get an EV.
I recently recommended it to someone ITT, if you’re curious, get the free PlugShare app.
What models are you shopping?
Volvo, Hyundai, Kia.
Main priority is length. Maybe width, too.
Needs to fit in the garage.
Is the Mach e too long? Is Polestar worth a look?
Just got a mach-e. It’s a bit longer than our CR-V, shorter than our minivan. It would fit in the garage, barely, if I didn’t have so much crap in it.
I think the ioniq is shorter. Polestar might be about the same.
Mach e is 185.6 in. Just barely. House side of the garage has the heater unit, the water heater unit, and a new stand-alone rack, which take up a good two feet.
Eh, gonna stick with car companies that I’ve heard of (/s). I’ll need a repairman who can come to the house for this appliance.
The 2 is pretty short.
ioniq6 would be out of the question at 191.x then. Maybe you need a 5n (183.3), budget be darned.
Chevy Bolt fits that description.
Polestar is Volvo I think.
Was.
Spun off, mostly bought by a chinese company.
They all do imo.
I’m pretty sure you don’t want a Tesla, the Model 3 is fun. And, I’m told, the BMW EVs handle quite well. And the Cadillac V models, but we are well past the budget here.
Again, looking for used in the $25K range.
Small is hard to find (Fiat 500e is out), since the batteries require length.
Current car is 171in, with plenty of room on both sides as well.
All the Chevys look good. Not sure which ones come in under length limit.
