DOGE (or: the Elmo Show)

This is the type of thing that really makes you want to take the pitchforks out for Musk.

I don’t get the logic of firing IRS workers when they’re so desperate for revenue.

They think they can get revenue from the tariffs.

Fewer workers means they won’t have the resources to investigate the complex dealing of the rich. They’ll only be able to go after the little guys.

ETA: To maybe state the obvious - Wow, you’re thinking about this all wrong. You seem to be considering what would be good for America. That has become irrelevant.

It became irrelevant Day 1.
“Make America Great Again, For ME, Not For Thee.”

Actually, a lot sooner with the Project 2025. They’ve been planning this for years.

DOGE burned through $39M in their first month.

Article excerpt:

In all, ProPublica found, more than $39 million has been earmarked to DOGE in the Trump administration’s first month.

For perspective, in recent years Congress had allocated around $50 million a year for the IT modernization initiative that DOGE supplanted, budget records show.

No. It’ll be reinvested in government bonds.

Maybe just as bad an option!

Trump is planning to can all of USPS leadership and have his administration run the post office.

Remember when he put Dejoy in charge to destroy mail service? And remember all the pearl clutching that Biden couldn’t possibly fire him for incompetence?

Have you never heard of starve the beast. The goal is to reduce revenue to the point where the government can no longer function.

Wait what??

It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grammes a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be REDUCED to twenty grammes a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.

I think that $14M is the amount from the ProPublica article:
"the most recent apportionment came on Feb. 8 and included a $14 million chunk described as part of a ‘software modernization initiative.’ " The footnote in your link has similar language, so I think this is consistent.

The ProPublica article says: “Most of DOGE’s money, records show, has come in the form of payments from other federal agencies made possible by a nearly century-old law called the Economy Act.”

The Economy Act allows some interagency transfers. But as the article notes, is DOGE then an agency? They would then be subject to the open records act, among other things.

Musk’s private security detail has been deputized by the US Marshals

How many lawsuits? How much has Musk cost and saved? It hasn’t even been a month… how are we going to survive four years?

Unfortunately, the folks keeping those tallies have been fired.
