Fun fact: I’ve never worked under the Finance umbrella. I’ve spent almost all of my time under Analytics.
Geez, lifestyles of the self employed. Spouse and I got up at 9am today. Now it’s 10, haven’t had breakfast or worked out yet. What a way to start a day. At least I’ve cleaned up most of me overnight emails.
I’ve done 15 minutes of actual work so far, and only because I got a question from someone I like. Right now I’m sitting in the library waiting on my new laptop.
You could check out the Study or the Billiard Room to look for clues.
Woke up with a headache at 3:00, took out the garbage/recycling at 7:00. I don’t have anything pressing today, but I will G some medium Fs.
Started off the day with therapy (it was good), sent a really exciting email mid morning celebrating a colleague’s achievement, am about to meet with my boss on development, then I’m going to the gym and going home to meet my son’s 5th grade teachers. Pretty chill day.
I’d say I put in nearly one solid hour today. Well, half of that was an all-staff call, so I only had to turn my brain on for a half hour. I’ve shut the laptop, might take the bike out for a spin.
Got a haircut, but giving an F for the rest of the day. Wife’s intimate get-together was postponed, so NGAF about readying the house.
Trying to get a read on the temp outside. My under-shade thermo says 89. The 4 Weather Underground posts are: 90, 94, 96, 103.
Very long day today.
Still doing some testing and design work at 9pm
Going to pack it in when this latest run is done (11 or so)
Can you expense a

I turned off my alarm last night. Got out of bed around 8:30, I’m at my computer but no meetings today so I think the basic plan is to ride the bike, take two hours for lunch, and so forth. We’ve been running 10/10 for three weeks now and I’m out of gas.
If I do anything today, it may be updating my resume, I don’t think where we are at here is sustainable.
You guys don’t get TOIL?
Whenever I do crazy work hours (70hrs/week) for a few weeks always ask for TOIL later (2 extra days off)
Lotsa toil, yes. TOIL? ![]()
Going to the farmers market in a bit. Apart from that, I hafta give some thought to a future project.
ETA: Good haul of veggies and baked goods!! Now to uze my braynz!!! ![]()
Google tells me this means time off in lieu of overtime.
We are salaried and exempt from overtime. Which means, basically, lol no that’s not a thing.
Some managers will grant some days off under the table to recognize when a person is working too many hours temporarily. But that’s generally against policy.
Never heard that term. That doesn’t happen here. I will say at a previous job they told me to take some free days off after a string of things… but we had just lost some folks and I never found the time. So my VP showed up to our staff meeting one day and said hey, if you won’t take a couple days off, here’s a check for $2k, maybe buy yourself something nice at least. And that recognition was really nice, that was 15 years ago and I still remember that VP very fondly.
I do this, it’s probably against policy, you can fire me if you like. In fact just this week I told my analyst to log off and leave the house, lol.
I do it, too. My general rule is that if something that humanizes workers is against policy then it’s definitely the right thing to do, and screw policy.
Sounds harsh. We have a working time directive that still applies even if salaried (was EU based).
Some companies here ask you to sign away that right but you can refuse (current company does not ask you to do this but I have worked in consultancies that make you sign it due to hours needed around peak times).
For analysts here, they can also be paid £££ if they do overtime (has to be approved by several people though)
For us, its just TOIL (max of 5 days/year).
Yeah, I just went ahead and set my Slack status to ‘do not disturb.’ Come at me.
