COVID mortality

That whooshing sound.

You write “Yadda Yadda,” and I’m going to say that line every time.

For my reference

This graph is incredibly dumb

“Studies with obvious results”?

Well, yes, but it’s not necessarily true.

Some other pandemics did disproportionately kill younger people more.

If you’re into that sort of thing, you can see what I wrote about it on twitter.

I’m sure it’s in here somewhere, but what are the death rates for 2020 and whatever we have so far for 2021 for 65-74 and 75-84?

Look, I’m being lazy and waiting for the official…

okay, I’m lying.

Here it is:

clicky on [image]

dammit, I want Table 2

Here is Table 2

Note: largest percentage increase was for ages 25 - 44

Most of that increase was due to non-COVID reasons

Thank you, meep!

Aside: No, net mom, I do NOT want to send a personal message! I want all to see my correspondences with meep!

Some reporters doing reporting think that COVID has not been properly represented on Death Certificate and thus causing drastic undercounting of the COVID death total

Also imbedded in that article js this interesting link:

Yeah, hundreds of people will have different things on their certs!

Hundreds!

In other news, HOT DAMN THE FINAL NUMBERS FOR 2020 ARE IN WONDER!

MORE LATER

The specific county covered in this article:
https://missouriindependent.com/2021/12/22/uncounted-inaccurate-death-certificates-across-the-country-hide-the-true-toll-of-covid-19/

Has a population of 80K. Here is the result from WONDER.

Age level breakout for 2018-2020

And now I’ll do cause of death! Let’s just look at 2020.

So, some of the causes in there may be COVID. Maybe some of the heart failures were caused by COVID. Who knows. If I try to do cause & age, there are too few results and the numbers get suppressed.

In your “fix” of the NYT graph, it looks like you forgot to include us kids again, or maybe Excel was pointing the 0-17’s to an empty row/column?

ETA: dunno why I put quotes where I did. Probably should be more like “…your fix of the NYT ‘graph’…”

It is too small for me to fit a label

You know that, jeez.

There are over 800K Covid deaths recorded so far. Of those 800K, fewer than 700 are of kids age 0-17.

And no, I’m not going to bother zooming in on the bottom of the graph so you can see less than 0.1% of COVID deaths.

Yes, of course, but it sounds better coming from you.

Looking at the real trend of interest

Am I blind, where is the 40-49 age group? In the

Percentage of Monthly Covid Deaths by Age Group, United States
as of 22 Dec 2021

My brother was nattering about how horrible some new variant was for kids, maybe Delta, heck, maybe alpha. He saw photos on the news of hospitalized kids. I looked up the total number of deaths to kids from covid in his state and pointed him to it.

He seems to have settled down. Of course, he’s still at fairly high risk, being nearly as old as i, and having some immune issues, specifically regarding colds.

But i think TV news is bad. Massive looting at the BLM rallies, hospitals full of dying children. It it bleeds, it leads

Yeah, have seen similar in family and friends. When my wife was getting worried, I computed the deaths per million and compared it to other causes for kids. Covid was something like sixth in the list. Made her feel better (which is good, others might have felt compelled to then worry more about other things on the list).

What gets to me is so many anti vaxers and COVID deniers talk about low death rates.

This an be bad, even if someone doesn’t die. How much school missed, work missed, long haul, just being so terribly sick.

It can be bad for kids, even if mortality remains low

LOOK THIS IS THE MORTALITY THREAD
