Yeah, it’s a pretty thin argument to be paying large public dollars for art installations like that. I understand there’s some argument, I just think it’s not that strong.
What they should consider if they’re going to do this, is art that is likely to increase in value. Put that kind of thing into the public view, then years later sell it off and buy something else. e.g. there was a first nations artist that died earlier this year that did some large paintings - they could’ve bought one of his, put it on display, then turned it over into something else. Or not, but at least it wouldn’t be money that eventually disappears.
Ford’s corrupt links to property developers would’ve sunk him by now if not for the trade war.
I dunno, he’s done a number of crooked things and nobody seems to know or care because hey, beer in the corner stores.
