For Red Sox players, it would generally be preferred to say he plays for the Sox, is a Sox player or a member of the Sox. It would be acceptable to call him a Red Sock, but this not as widely used. It would be similar to say that someone is a Heat, Magic or Thunder. They are members of those teams.

Iā€™ve always used White Sock to refer to a single player and I donā€™t think thatā€™s uncommon here. Any of the other alternatives either are unwieldy or just sound wrong (White Sox).

If youā€™re just going through unread posts, you can easily see stuff here before playing. And the issue isnā€™t how late in the day you post, it is how late in the day others read. I can only speak for myself, but itā€™s not uncommon for me to be playing between 11PM and 12.

But also, Iā€™ve already played today.

I was thinking about this more, because Iā€™m sure Iā€™ve never seen this used in any printed media. I think the way I see this gotten around in printed media is to include the position of the player - so, White Sox outfielder.
