P+c.had a hard time with what ended up as b and p, so had to do gy to be sure what was left. Finally bottle and mushroom suggested cap which salary fit well and graduate meh ( do they mean mortarboard?). That left blue to transform form food to its other meaning.

Me through first two guesses, then I proposed purples, she proposed greens. I suggested purples as _ CAP, with doubts about how well GRADUATE fit, but observed there was a least a relationship to CAP. Neither of us saw blue connection before reveal.

I am in the camp of not getting blue before reveal. I’m not familiar with that meaning of PAP, and would describe CHEESE as being over the top, not overly sentimental.

i believe it comes from usage of pap is something you feed babies, so overly smooth, easy to digest, simple, pablum. But i agree it is a relatively loose connection to overly sentimental, except they are commonly paired.

Didn’t see B or P, but after getting Y and G guessed right on the second try. For graduates I’ve heard the term “cap and gown” far more than I’ve heard mortarboard
