CL, EL, Cups and non-EPL League discussion

Both sad and haply at this news.

Good luck to him with the Brazil squad. He completely deserves this last managerial move.

Always find it hard to be very sympathetic to folks who overpay for sporting events. Buyer beware!

Major trophy count for Crystal Palace, 1905-present, finally = 1, which puts a huge shine on what would otherwise be a fairly typical 12th place finish.

That pushes the table downward. I’ll post the consequences later.

Serie A use head-to-head results, then head-to-head GD, using two matches instead of a more credible 38 matches among equal competition, to determine standings.
Oh, except for determining the Champion. If they tie on points and ONLY points, then one more match will be held. The venue is determined not by a neutral site, but whichever team has a better head-to-head result (each match ended 1-1), head-to head GD (see prior), then league GD, so assuming a normal NAP loss and an INT draw, it will be held at NAP on 5/26 or so.

Oh, INT also playing for Champions League Championship May 31 vs PSG, who secured their Ligue title 6 weeks ago, lost two Ligue matches after title was secured, and who have not played a competitive match since the UCL Semi’s. They do play next week for the Coupe, so still in the race for a Treble.

The challenges for the venue of a European club final. 2025 Europa League final is a case in point.

Took my wife there last year (Bilbao and San Sebastian)

I understand why they want to promote smaller cities, but Bilbao doesn’t have the capacity for a final like this. Their infrastructure is going to get absolutely swamped.

I really do hope this ends well because English vs English action abroad (Spain specially) can really bring out the worst in their fans.

I would think there is little interest in this match outside of Spurs and Man U fans so the stadium will be almost all drunk English football fans. It could be ugly.

Will be watching the match with my son at our local Spurs pub. Should be an entertaining match as these two teams are desperate to salvage their seasons.

Yep. The locals are definitely not going to like it if the fans take it too far.

Going as expected so far.

Not a pretty game but Spurs have finally won a trophy after so many years.

The game was ugly but I was happy with the result. The play of the game was van de Ven’s incredible goal line save.

37th Place!!

Edit: 27th in UEFA Coefficient, which puts them in Pot 3 at least. (MUN is 11th in UEFA Coefficient.)

And, according to the announcers, $140M in revenue.
Let’s see who they can pick up in the offseason.

TOT will finish much higher in the EPL next season. Good chance they will qualify for 2027 Europe play based on their EPL standings if they stay healthy.

OK, Olympiacos is in UCL next year, while NF is not.
Maybe the owner demanded that NF lose to CHE, so he could still be the active owner of each team for another year.

Well, that was thorough.

Imagine how much more of a rout it would have been if Mbappe still played for PSG….

Or, how much they would have lost by, cuz would have to overpay him and not have the current players.

I was being sarcastic, but you know that.

The CONCACAF Champions League Final is tomorrow but it is not on many peoples’ radar. Hoping that my Whitecaps can pull off an upset but not optimistic.

The what??

(THAT is sarcasm.)
