CAS 2024 - Phoenix

Who’s going, who’s skipping out?

I’ll be there, complete dates TBD but right now we’re planning for a week. Mrs. Hoffman wants to go to Sedona, we want to finally meet the bonus kids’ godmother since we talk to each other quite a bit on the phone but haven’t seen each other face-to-face.

No can do. Not a CAS member.
Sedona is OK. Seems like more of a chick place with magic rocks and shit.
November will be better than when I went, in Summer, though it was a good 20 degrees cooler than Phoenix, which means 90 degrees.
They do have a couple of nice Local Breweries. Oak Creek: I have their shirt on right now, in fact.

Sedona screams “tourist trap” to me. Which, I’ve been told it’s not, which is what I’d expect from people who want you to go to a tourist trap. But, if it’s a chick place that explains why Mrs. Hoffman wants to go there. And, because people have said “you should go to Sedona, it’s totally worth it.”

At least it’s not being pitched like it’s Plymouth Rock.

Way better than Plymouth Rock.
It is quite beautiful in its desolate way.
Just don’t get taken in by the tourist trap crap.
The beer is good. Honest!
Overnight stay? That’ll cost ya. Maybe November is not so bad, but we have priced X-Mas time AirBnB’s and decided to go elsewhere.

Sedona is gorgeous. There is also a lot of good food there.

Agree with DTNF: don’t get sucked into the tourist stuff and there is a lot to enjoy there. Unless you want to have your chakra aligned with crystals, and in that case knock yourself out.

I’m going to be elitist here: 45 minutes of my time is not worth a tumbler cup, even if it’s got the CAS logo on it.

Phoenician here, AMA about visiting/eating in/attractions nearby Phoenix.

Sedona can be touristy, but it’s still definitely worth the 2-hour drive if you’ve never been. Plenty of sights and good food.

Weather is 60-70 this week - it’s cooled off significantly in the past two weeks. Probably one of the best times of year to visit.
