This is key, IMO, if you’re “car-ignorant” and looking for the blinker fluid at your local Autozone.
Alternately, just like with medical advice, always get a second opinion if someone is saying you need to do X that has an estimated cost above some don’t-scam-me-threshold.
And in getting that second opinion, don’t say anything about what the prior mechanic(s) have said. Just go in with the same starting line that you used for the first mechanic/shop.
