My point was to highlight the difference between Ford’s type of populism versus Trump’s. Ford is actually trying to do things for the “little people”.
Sort of I guess. He’s building a highway across the top of toronto - which everyone wants. Then he’s cutting his developer buddies in on the fix, so a bit less of that lol.
He’s got his own brand of crooked for sure but dang he sure does some popular stuff that any politician could be doing,but never seem to.
Alberta will fit in well as a US red state.

I don’t think it’s being driven by Trump.
Canada has been doing studies on developing offshore wind on the Scotian Shelf and the SW Coast of NL for the last couple of years. In the areas that were identified off Nova Scotia, the premier would like to start development on 6 GW of offshore wind by 2030. The provincial grid currently produces 2.8 to 3.2 GW of power.
The Newfoundland provincial government is opposed to using renewable energy to generate power and seems to be trying to obstruct it irrespective of whether the Liberals or PCs are in charge. Using wind energy to generate green hydrogen for Germany is ok. Using it to power a home or business seems to be forbidden and the provincial government doesn’t seem to be interested in talking about it. They’re all about fossil fuels.
Side note is that a lot of the materials for the offshore wind in the US are being stored at a former US naval base in Argentina, NL. Apparently it’s the cheapest place to store them, possibly because of US laws around vessel flagging/construction.

There’s a lot of this stuff around the world, and I don’t qualify for any of it. My sister in law got her polish citizenship a few years ago, and I think her kids might’ve too though they were born here (and I think she was too). Me, nope. probably 4 generations, canadian all that way on every branch, and before that 100% british isles. Or as I like to say, we’re a mixed race marriage. I’m british, my spouse is scottish. Hah! Anyway, no citizenship for me anywhere. Which is fine, what I have is pretty good.
I (and my kids) now qualify. I might start looking into this.

My husband’s sister is trying to get Canadian citizenship through this situation, they applied sometime back in 2025 and are working with a lawyer. We were skeptical they would be able to, but if they are, my husband and kids likely will, too. Their great grandparent is Canadian. Not sure where that would leave me, but it would be good for them.
