“Adopt a data mindset” / “making data-driven decisions” = “we paid someone mid-to-high 6 figures [or more] to tell us about data and how it can be used to make business decisions, even though actuaries do this every day and have been telling us what we should be doing with data to support their thinking - but we ignored all of that because it didn’t match what we felt was really going on, and if it’s just the actuaries then feelings are far more important than data.”

Theory: “To be a leader, you should [insert list of virtuous traits and selfless actions] and [insert list of qualities demonstrating knowledge and competency].”
Reality: “To be a leader, you need to be a self-serving, narcissistic piece of shit willing to walk on and over everyone around you; the more, the better and the higher you’ll go. Competence is a bug, not a feature, and ideally undesirable if you can make up for it by being a complete asshole to others.”
